I think Lewis will win it easily, but it will go all the way till the end thats unless Iron Mike bites his ear off. So that will be two wins for England, one in football and the other in keeping the boxing title.

How about sewing a jumper or going to the mosque and doing some voluntary work like cleaning the toilets or giving the rooms a lick of paint ???

salaams,

Ishallah, as long as he dosent get disqaulified, Tyson will win.  Lewis is a chump, Tyson is built for boxing. As long as he can make it in close to lewis, he's through.  Lewis will try to use the jab to keep tyson away from him.  And everyone knows that lewis has a glass jaw.

Take a DEEP BREATH--- let it out slow( I said S-L-O-W! ;))  Now- go read a sci-fi book , 'cause that's what the fight will be- Mike can't control his temper, and Lewie is bound to do something to set him off, and-well-- there goes the fight to Lewis!! :D

Oh peleeeeease, its gonna be one of those matches where everyone will think that Tyson will win, all odds being in favour of him, then a someone who resembles Mike Tyson, will go to the betting shop, put all his money on Lewis, and low and behold Lennox Lewis retains his heavy Weight title.

(oh but then betting is haram so Mike wouldn't do that, oops i forgot so is Boxing) well why stop ther then hey ;D

Tonight tonight tonight!

Man, I hope Lennox takes him out, Mike needs to be put out of the rest of the little bit of mind left anyway. This'll be a fine way to go.

Lewis floors Tyson to retain crown
By James Mossop  (Filed: 09/06/2002)

With a masterful show of boxing, Lennox Lewis gave Mike Tyson the biggest, most humiliating defeat of his career when he knocked him out in the eighth round to retain his WBC and IBF titles. In doing so he underlined his position as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

View from the top: Lennox Lewis dominated Mike Tyson during their world heavyweight title fight
It was a glorious night for Lewis in the noisy Pyramid Arena on the banks of the Mississippi Rover in Memphis, Tennessee. All the pre-fight bad mouthing that Tyson and his team had been relentlessly spouting was rammed back at them with a big man's controlled violence. Lewis, at 6ft 5in, stood six inches taller than Tyson and weight 15lbs heavier at 17st 11lb.

From the first bell he made every punch tell. His long, left jab was immaculate as it regularly found Tyson's face. Frequently Lewis followed up with a series of vicious uppercuts while always looking to land his fight-winning right. Tyson had no answer to that and it was a ferocious punch 2mins 25 seconds into the eighth round that buckled Tyson's legs and sent him crashing. He had no hope of beating the count.

Tyson who had talked gruesomely of wanting to feel his fist crunch Lewis's brain was a broken fighter by the end of the third round. His trainer, Ronnie Shields, said afterwards that he saw defeat on Tyson's face as he came back to his corner with blood trickling from the corner of his right eye.

With the exception of the first round, which Tyson may have shaded, Lewis dominated every move, every minute, every round until the final knockdown. A right uppercut in the second round had Tyson backing off. Tyson was relying on his familiar bull-rushing tactics but Lewis had his measure. The jab was merciless, the right hand a hammer. The legend on the ring support said 'Horseshoe.' Tyson must have felt he was being hit by one.

Lewis was toying his opponent. Clearly Tyson had come to fight. There was no hint of fouling. Indeed it was Lewis who had a harshly deducted by referee Eddie Cotton in the third round. He had Tyson wobbling and then falling but as he was going down the referee said Lewis had deliberately pushed him over.

From then on Lewis toyed with the man who was once the youngest world heavyweight champion ever. He reduced Tyson to a bemused shadow of the man who previously enjoyed being called 'the baddest man on the planet.'

Lewis may well have finished Tyson's career. Many of the millions of fight fans who bought into pay-per-view did so because of Tyson's previously erratic behaviour. They are unlikely to do so again. As a credible fighter he is past his prime; no longer an attraction.

The hundreds of Lewis fans in the arena chanted his name as their man moved comfortably towards his win, doing everything right except heeding trainer Emanuel Steward's urgings to land the knock-out in the fourth round. When it came in the eighth Tyson was bleeding from his eye and his nose, his spirit visibly broken.

He had fought with bravery and honour but he was no match for the tall Briton who will decide in the next two weeks whether he should fight on. He will be 37 in September and was giving nothing away.

He said: "I wanted to complete my legacy as the best fighter on the planet. I showed boxing who is the best in the world. I can adapt to any style. Nobody gets away from my jab. It'sbeen a long road but I finally have what I wanted. I realised I had him. He was just ducking. He had no answer. After the fight he apologised to me in the ring for the words that had been said before the fight and told me I was a masterful boxer and asked for a re-match.

"If the public wants it, that's a possibility. Manny was pleading with me to take him out but I was waiting for the right time. He did catch me with a good left hook and that told me to keep my hands up."

It was a marvellous night for British boxing as he delivered the perfect answer to his American critics who have described him as a dull fighter.

As Shields said: "We congratulate Lennox. He fought the perfect fight. He his Mike a lot. Mike gave his best. He fought a gracious fight. He could have quit but he didn't. He was beaten by a great champion. I don't know what Mike will do now."

As he left the arena, speaking to no one, Tyson looked a sad and lonely figure as British voiced chanted: "There's only one Lennox Lewis."

Assalamu Alaikum,

I don't think you have to worry about your excitement anymore Mujaahid.....Tyson lost and Lennox won....I think it's a good way to end his career.  SubhanAllah Tyson put up a show before the fight, that he wanted to bash Lennox' head, and show to him and to the world who the real heavyweight champion of the era is, and he lost.  may Allah help us become better people and Muslims than we are today, ameen.

Tyson lost  :'(

He lost and he fought so badly  :'(

Theirs so many things which were part of his downfall, one of the key point being Lewis went to court to make sure tyson didnt have any fights before he fought Lewis, knowing this would mean he would be up against a rusty tyson, and his plan worked.

Apart from that, tysons new corner were aweful, and he was just too heavy to move around.

Maybe this is the end, but i'm sure Tyson wont wanna go out like this, and i reckon thier will be a rematch.

But if that does happen, tysons needs 2 or 3 hard fights before he fights lewis.

But whatever happens, Tyson will always be my boxing hero.

He took the shots and lost gracefully. He went out like a truly great fighter.

I don't want to say it, young one(about being right- -oh yes I do- but I won't :D). But, yes, Mike did go out like a true man, and if he can maintain that, and fight, he could come back a great boxer. I give credit where it is due, and Mike deserves this.

ok, now that the fight is over, i have a question for all you boxing fans.....

i've never seen boxing live, but i've watched news and documentary footage of a number of fights, and i'd have to say that two of the most beautiful dancers ever in that ring were muhammad ali when he was young and sugar ray leonard.  recently i saw about a minute of prince naseem fighting -- a more beautiful dancer than either of those, because of his ease.  he lounged about, not exerting himself, not getting worked up, relaxed, casual, floating at the edge of the ring, almost resting, waiting, like a calm and quiet predator in smooth and graceful quiet motion.  his opponent, on the other hand, was fierce and scowling, nearly drooling - sweating, striving, grunting and swinging.  prince naseem darted in like a hummingbird, sudden, with great power hidden beneath his quiet and almost slow-motion lunge, delivered his blows with speed and precision, and returned to his wait at the edge.  very very lovely.

so, who's ever seen him really fight?  is it all like this, beautiful?  or did i just get taken in by a carefully edited clip?

Ameen - and an excellent point. Sometimes we get caught up so much in this "Tyson is a Muslim" and "Zidane is our brother" etc (without meaning any disrespect to the two brothers) that its almost as if we're looking for izzah to come to us at the fists of one and the boots of another.

It is only thru Islam that our honour comes and we shouldn't forget that even for a moment.

ok, this is just a funny little story for mujaahid, since this discussion has reached its end...

whatever year it was that mike tyson won his first big fight - i don't know when it was, before i moved up here, when i lived down around new paltz - i was in kingston (ny), had just walked out of a bakery, and a parade had started since i went in.  now typically oblivious person that i am about such things as parades, i didn't know what it was for, and looked up to see what it was about.  there were a bunch of firetrucks in the front, and i remembered that there was a volunteer firefighters big weekend long training and competition (yes, there are such things..), so i thought that must be what it was about.  i was standing there in the middle of a bunch of kids, pretty small like 7-9 or so, all boys.  all of a sudden one of them yelled there he is!  there he is!  now silly me, i couldn't see the car he was pointing to, and i said "who?"  he puffed up looked at me like lady you a fool said "my cousin!  it's my cousin!"  i almost opened my mouth again to say "who??"  but the look of pride on his face was so grand, i instead turned to the street to see who his cousin was.  there was mike, whose name i barely recognized, passing by sitting at the back of an open cadillac convertible.  the parade wasn't for any firefighters, it was for the triumphant return of this kid's cousin, back to the town where he trained.

hey mujaahid, if only i'd known who he was, i would have gotten his picture for you!  maybe even an autograph.....

hmmm conspiracy theory? Such as? I think its the Americasn who fall for the nonsense in your media, the rest of the unbrainwashed world can actually think for themselves.

We all saw tyson defeated. A rusty, unprepared and shadow of a fighter.

Lewis going to court to stop tyson having any warm up fights may be some kind of "conspiracy", but him doing that is actually a fact. Imagine going to court to stop someone having any warm up fights! Its disgraceful! And i hope therefore someone, hopefully the massive Ukranian Vladimir Klitchcho knocks him out!

I hope tyson retires. He has been the greatest fighter of our generation, and a great man, and the best bit was the many dim americans hated him because Mr Newspaper told them to hate him!  ;)

Mujaahid,

"I think its the Americasn who fall for the nonsense in your media, the rest of the unbrainwashed world can actually think for themselves."

Hey, I'm American.....

"...but nothing as bad as the media make him out to be!"

I don't know whether to be more appalled at your comments regarding "dim Americans" or the fact that you stick up for a man responsible for the comments below.

Forgive me for posting this if it offends anyone but here are some of the lovely things that have come out of Mr. Tyson's mouth.

***IF YOU GET OFFENDED EASILY DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER***

***LEWD, RUDE, AND CRUDE COMMENTS AHEAD***

Tyson, usually calm but at times hostile, opened with a lewd response to a female reporter, who asked him about the upcoming fight ("It's no doubt I am going to win this fight and I feel confident about winning this fight. I normally don't do interviews with women unless I fornicate with them. So you shouldn't talk anymore ... Unless you want to, you know.").

This was taken from an article from ESPN.  Here is the link if you wish to read more of Mr. Tyson's lovely, intelligent dialogues...

Dirt, i'm sure most people say FAR worse in thier dailey lives, yet does it ever make the papers? No, we only hear tysons comments make headlines. What he said is not much worse then what a lot of people say on the streets. Its nothing big, and i dont really know why people are making a fuss over.

I'm sure thier more to worry about in the world than some stupid comment made by mike tyson, dont you agree? But then this is where my dim american comments kick into affect, because the american media put tysons comments as big news. In the UK, i dont think it was even in the papers!

And then you get "appaled" at people calling some Americans dim? Well why is it that only the "americans" seem to be so anti tyson? He was here twice, and the brits loved him!

A great man?
Perhaps a man eater is more appropriate....

He is definately not someone I would want my son to look upon as a hero...

Americans brainwashed? Perhaps mediawashed. Speaking for myself, I realize that much in the news is my only basis of knowledge in world events.

Being brainwashed means you don't know this.

Your coments are really getting irritating.  I wish you would stop the American cut downs. You have now met enough of us to know your comments are out of line and that there are so many of us that are good, kind and sensitive- and intelligent.

I understand that you have a need for superiority- there are several other message boards you can do this on. This message board is not the one.

Mujaahid,

The comments of a single man like Tyson don't really bother me.  What does bother me is he says the things he does and people actually look up to him.  And even worse, a muslim looks up to him.

"I'm sure thier more to worry about in the world than some stupid comment made by mike tyson, dont you agree? But then this is where my dim american comments kick into affect, because the american media put tysons comments as big news. In the UK, i dont think it was even in the papers!"

You know, you're right.  There ARE a lot more important things going on in the world today than some over the hill, sensationalist, foul mouthed boxer.  Things like Palestine, Chechnya, and Kashmir all come to mind...........Who started this thread?

And as far as your apparent lack of respect for Americans.  I'm glad you can see the world with such a limited black and white view.  Your life must be very easy.  I guess I'll just continue on with my American way of life, fumbling along like the dim witted, brain washed American MUSLIM that I am.

So I'm brainwashed AND I can't think for myself.  Thanks.

And you actually DEFEND your position of speaking GENERALLY?!  You actually defend the fact that you blindly accuse ALL Americans of being a certain way?  I don't know, maybe it's just me but I try not to make a habit of labeling an entire 280 million people as being the same way.

I would actually rather you accuse me alone of being this way then labeling an entire nation as such.  Unless of course you have somehow managed to interact with all 280 million Americans and know for a fact that every one of them is the way you describe them.....oh, excuse me......us.
