Atta, US agent or the clumsiest terrorist ever?

What a joke! Something is definitely up with this whole 9-11 tragedy. Everyone who is coming forward claiming to have met Atta and his associates is making strikingly convenient stories that dovetail with US policy re: Muslims/Arabs. Its almost like reading some weird story now.

I didn't think that my opinion of what goes on in America could have sunk any lower... till i read this comment from this lady who met Atta:

"And he said he was an engineer, and he wanted to build a chemical tank that would fit inside the aircraft and take up every available square inch of the aircraft except for where the pilot would be sitting."

Twin towers hijacker 'sought US loan'

Mohammad Atta, the suspected leader of the World Trade Center hijackers, tried to borrow money
from the US Government to buy a plane, a civil servant has revealed.
Johnelle Bryant, a loan officer at the Department of Agriculture, told ABC News that Atta wanted
$650,000 to buy and modify a crop-dusting plane in May 2000.

When Atta was rejected for the loan, al-Qaeda switched plans from crashing small planes packed
with explosives into buildings to hijacking passenger jets, according to reports of the
interrogation of Abu Zubaydah, one of the group's alleged leaders.

Ms Bryant gave an extensive interview for the first time to the American TV network, hoping her
story would serve as a warning, nearly nine months after some 3,000 people were killed in the
attacks on New York and Washington.

She said she rejected Atta's application because it did not make sense and because he was not a
US citizen.

Not suspicious

She directed him to other agencies and a bank and was not suspicious enough to report the
contact to federal authorities.

"He wanted to finance a twin-engine, six-passenger aircraft and remove the seats," she told the
network.

"And he said he was an engineer, and he wanted to build a chemical tank that would fit inside
the aircraft and take up every available square inch of the aircraft except for where the pilot
would be sitting."

Atta has been regarded as the ringleader of 19 Arab men - members of Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda
- who hijacked four US passenger planes and smashed three of them into the World Trade Center
and the Pentagon.

Security discussed

Ms Bryant told ABC that she and Atta discussed al-Qaeda and Bin Laden during his visit to her
office in Homestead, Florida, and he asked her about security at the World Trade Center and what
she knew of Chicago, Seattle and Los Angeles.

She said she thought she was just helping a new immigrant learn about her country.

"How could somebody be that evil, be that close to me and I didn't recognise it?" she asked.

Atta spent more than an hour with Ms Bryant, though he did not wish to deal with her at first,
saying she was "but a woman".

She said he asked about US landmarks and asked to buy an aerial photograph of Washington on her
office wall.

"He pulled out a wad of cash... and started throwing money on my desk. He wanted that picture
really bad," Ms Bryant told ABC.

"He asked about the Pentagon and the White House and I pointed them out."

Atta also talked of Bin Laden. "He said this man would someday be known as the world's greatest
leader," Ms Bryant said.

"I didn't know who Osama Bin Laden was... he could have been a character on Star Wars for all I
knew."

She contacted authorities after recognising Atta in news reports after he piloted the first
plane into the World Trade Center.

[slm],

Kashif, do you think that the Americans think that the rest of the world is dum ???

Maan these stories, even the daily Sport would find them a bit hard to print!.

The more you look into it, the more the Americans are trying to cover up something.
My mom always used to say to me 'Hanif' never lie as once you lie you'll have to give another lie to back that lie and in the end you'll whole event will be just a farce. I guess if I go with my moms theory it sure as hell makes sense.

What a disgrace America is in...

hmm obviously he was an american agent creating a story so he would be remembered .. remember sirhan sirhan and oswald?

Bush thought he could get away with doing a second Pearl Harbour or Tonkin Gulf incident he didn't calculate how much the source of news had passed out of government control.

I mean 2 hours after the attack they are identifying atta as the leader ?!

ooookkkkk.......um, let's see here.  hmmmm...well, nothing about this story seems strange to me.  maybe you just don't know americans??

ayayayaayyy.....um, this is a completely believable story to me, based on what i see of how people in application offices work.  oh - i'm not commening here on anything but this report, just sos ya know.

let mput it this way:

i can completely imagine this happening.  a desk worker in an agricultural loan office is much more likely to work based off of lists of equipment someone might need financing for, than to actually have any working knowledge of agricultural operations.  chances are a loan officer like this - even though it's supposedly a "specialized" role - would have no more idea what someone who did cropdusting would know or not know or even what chemicals might or might not be used and in what quantities than a loan officer in your neighborhood bank would.

and the average american is impressed just to hear that someone IS an engineer, not even understanding what that means or what their education might have been or that there are many fields of engineering or.....anyhting else.  so, this woman, most likely not knowing anything about cropdusting except possibly makes of aircraft on a list, with purchase prices shown, and maybe rates of depreciation for different makes and types, might have just as likely to have been impressed by his imaginative efficiency and wondered why no one else thought of it before (since all you need is a pilot and a chemical supply) as she might have been bored stiff and nearly choking on her gum as she forced herself to endure his tales and questions.  most american office workers have an attitude of disdain for the people they're supposed to be helping, especially foreigners whose culture or nation of origin they're either unfamiliar with or have decided for any reason they dislike.  not 100% of these workers, of course, but you'd be surprised how coldly, rudely, and boorishly they can treat people.

now, the fact that this woman actually ANSWERED his questions indicated that she might really be a nice helpful person.  there really ARE some people like that.

but that's all i see here.  so, as a dumb american  :'(  maybe you all can help me see this from your point of view.......?

mwishka's brick head makes her a little dumb sometimes...... :)

I should have made this clear earlier, i'm not really advocating the p.o.v. that Atta was working for the US govt.; what i am saying is that whats coming out of the pentagon post 9-11 is leaving me more and more suspicious about the whole tragedy.

mwishka... its hard to describe for you. Perhaps on your way back from Palestine, you can spend a few months in Europe and perhaps gain some insight as a person on the outside looking at whats going on in the US.

Well the leaders of the US of A certainly need to brush up their education and knowledge of current events.
I think America should pass a right that its necessary for all its citizens to realise that there are other nations and nationalitys  apart from them.

Have you thought of moving to Europe...

I do not know if you know that most americans are made up of people from these other places.  there is a reason whey we got out of those other places and came here.
