last stop before palestine....

other side of the river friends,

it occurred to me when i was trying to get my little "home base" set up here for my trip that i know (almost) none of you, though we all write here at this board.  so, this is a little off-the-wall, and last minute:  my friend soumeya and i will be in albany tomorrow for one last desperate attempt to find light clothing i need for this trip - AND we could meet some of you somewhere......if you wanted to.

i don't know when we're going, or where we're going - i'll let the "expert" decide that, and we won't necessarily have a lot of time...but.......

IF anyone even reads this or IF anyone wants to meet up with us, reply here (i'll check).  or to my e-mail address....

i know this sounds quuuiiiiitttee vague - sorry about that - but when i read that two of you were at that rally and i would never have even known, it made me think maybe i should make this effort.

Hey Sis Mwishka,

Why don't you swing by New Hampshire on your way back?  I would love to meet you!   ;D I live about 1/2 hour from the beach, so we can take a walk along the coast and go grab some fish!  :-/

Why don't you buy clothes once you get over there?  I have some Palestinian friends, so if I knew where you were going I could ask about clothing.

Bye, Marcie

Looks like you never made it I just recieved this news in my email

Israel turns away U.S. Muslim group at airport
Israeli officials have turned back a group of 20 U.S. Muslims who tried to enter the country, holding them under guard for nearly eight hours before putting them on a flight back to the United States, police and a member of the group said.

Margaret Zaknoen, program organizer for the group, American Muslims for Jerusalem, said she and her companions arrived in Israel on Sunday afternoon for a series of meetings with Israeli and Palestinian peace activists.

"We started to go through passport control and then they took us out," Zaknoen, of Washington D.C. said by cellphone from Tel Aviv's Ben-Gurion airport, as she and the others boarded a Continental Airlines flight to Newark, New Jersey. The flight was scheduled to take off at 11.55 p.m.

Israel police spokesman Gil Kleiman earlier said the 20 were refused entry by Interior Ministry staff and were held at the airport for deportation, but he had no further details.

Zaknoen said an immigration official told her the group was denied entry because of "serious security concerns" and the belief that the object of their trip was to support the Palestinian Authority.

"I told them we were not going to go to any demonstrations or anything, we were just going to be meeting Palestinian and Israeli groups, talking to people, learning about the situation," she said, adding that she felt her group was denied entry, where other groups with identical itineraries had been admitted in the past, because her delegation was Muslim.

Zaknoen said that on her return home she would complain to the State Department, members of Congress and to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.

Israel has repeatedly deported foreign peace activists who entered areas of the West Bank declared a closed military zone, and off limits to press or nonresidents. Two weeks ago eight foreigners, among them a Jordanian journalist and two U.S. citizens, were expelled after troops caught them in the Balata refugee camp making what was called a visit of solidarity with the Palestinians.
