Where Cowards Fear to Tread, Children Feel They Must Go

Ring a ring a roses, a pocket full of poses, a tissue a tissue, we all fall down. Not tissues, nor the men of this Ummah are protecting the children of Palestine now. Wait, perhaps it is incorrect to call us the Men of this Ummah, after all, one would have expected a man to defend his children, his wife, his mother, but no, we preferred to spend our time in trivial pursuits of fleeting pleasure. In the time of the Sahaba, a Roman was sent to spy on the Muslims, he returned to his General after carrying out his mission saying that the muslims shall never be defeated. When asked why, he said because they were warriors by day and monks by night. This is the balance we need to achieve. Indeed, this is the balance the members of Hamas and the like are achieving, these are the Warriors of Palestine.
Evil. A phrase that is banded around, without any real definition and certainly no tangible example: that is until you look to the land of the Jews. In December 2001, three Palestinian children were murdered and later mutilated with army knives by Jewish soldiers in northern Gaza. Initially the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) stated that it had killed Palestinian militants, but these lies were exposed when Al-Shifa released these bodies for their Janaza in which thousands attended.

The children were Ahmed M. Banat, Mohammed A. Lubad, and Mohammed Al Madhoun. The families of the victims were not shown the faces of the children out of mercy, one Al-Shifa spokesman describes the state of the children:
"The bodies of the children were brutally mutilated and tortured. Two bodies were shot with live bullets and the third was stabbed with knifes. Their heads were smashed. There was shell shrapnel in one of the bodies"

Schools should be a sanctuary, surely. Not so in Palestine. Here, even getting to school has become a frightening and dangerous journey. It was a normal morning in November, a day like any other. The children woke up had breakfast, gave salaam to their parents before skipping off to school, they did not make it. On the way to school an Israeli mine exploded beneath them. The force of the explosion scattered the body parts of the five children, all from the same family. The children belonged to the Al-Astel family in Khan Younis.

Once inside the gates of the school, the fear shifts to a direct IDF attack. Indeed, this fear is not unfounded. Countless schools have been attacked by the IDF. 'No surely not, even the Jews would not stoop to this level of barbarism. This must be some kind of fabrication' I hear you say. OK, tell the children in the kindergarten in Gaza on March 3 that the F-16 fighter jets that shelled them were not real, tell the parents of Riham Ward, aged 12, that it was not Israeli soldiers who killed her whilst she was in school in Jenin. And will someone please tell the parents of 10 year old Maria Abu Sarees that the bullets that killed her whilst she was playing in her bedroom were merely a figment of her imagination.

Much has been made of IDF 'targeted attacks' one has to ask, if that is so, who is the target? Is the target four-year-old Riham Abu Taha, who was shot dead by an IDF sniper in Rafah; or 11 year old Mohammed Al-Maghrabi, who whilst playing with other children near his home in Nablus, was shot and killed by sniper bullets; or is the target Al-Ibrahimieh school in Hebron, who together with many other schools have been attacked by Jewish soldiers, killing children inside. During this attack, in Al-Ibrahimieh school, the soldiers asked several teachers to undress in view of the entire school, the army later refused to give a reason.

A lot has been said about Hamas, much unforgivable, all unfounded. Yet, not once, in the history of Hamas, has it ever targeted innocent Jewish children, not once. Yet it was Jews who planted two bombs in a school yard in Sur Baher, a Palestinian village, and it was the Jewish police who took nearly an hour to respond to the emergency call (made by teachers who had spotted suspicious packages) by which time one of the bombs had exploded, and it is the Jews who have the audacity to call us barbarians.

In truth, it was not really a surprise that the Israeli police took so long. After all, it was the Israeli police who chased 14 year old Samer Suleimen Abu Mayaleh up a hill, ordered him to take his trousers down, and whilst he was bent over, shot him in the rectum.

Football fever has gripped the world, everywhere people are either playing or talking about football. However, not many, if anyone mentions the name of Khalil, or Yubneh Refugee Camp. Who? I hear you ask. In July 2001, eleven year old Khalil and twenty other children were playing football in Yubneh Refugee camp, near the Egyptian border when Khalil's head was blown into small fragments by an Israeli soldier. Before parts of his brain reached the ground the soldiers unleashed more firepower on the other children there. This should come as no surprise, after all an Israeli newspaper recently reported that a 'sharpshooter' for the IDF openly admitted that it was IDF policy to shoot children above the age of 12. The IDF had no comment to make on the Yubneh shooting, because they knew that as always happens, there will be initial outrage rapidly followed by indifference. So carry on, talk about David Beckham's foot, and forget the image of a an 11 year old son of this Ummah whose brain has been shredded by Israeli bullets.

Lights out. You kiss your child on the forehead. Leaving, you glance back at your daughter's smile that lights up the room and you hope she has a pleasant night's sleep, assuring her that there no monsters are under her bed. Sweet dreams. Only a few thousand miles away, another father, your brother, kisses his daughter goodnight, and as he passes through the door, he glances back praying that Allah will protect his daughter tonight, that he will not wake in the middle of the night to find his daughter buried under a heap of rubble. As he leaves he assures his daughter that he has asked around, and that an Israeli attack is not likely tonight, even as he says that, his daughter looks out of the window up at the moon and waits for the silhouette of a F16 fighter Jet.

Recently Khattab of Chechnya (may Allah have mercy on his soul) joined the caravan of martyrs leaving Chechnya to be with his Lord (we ask Allah that it is so), and it is fitting here to remind the people that what inspired him to fight Jihad against the Russians was an old woman who said to him that: "We want them to quit our land so that we can return to Islam." And when asked how she would help in the Jihad she replied that she only had a jacket, but that she would donate it for the cause of Allah. Whilst speaking to her Khattab sobbed till his beard was soaked with tears. This one woman was enough to inspire such a great Mujahid, yet we have stories of mutilated children and butchered mothers to inspire us. Yet most of us use them to fill the silence in our conversations.

Intentionally this article has not included any numbers of children murdered in Palestine, because it believes that statistics are not important. It should not matter whether hundreds or thousands have died, the fact that one child has been murdered should be enough to outrage you, and light within you the flame of vengeance. The pain of oppression does not fade, nor will the flames of vengeance dwindle with time.

This is a short account of three boys, friends at Salahadin School in Gaza City. One of the boys, Ismail Abu Nadi, aged 14 had become increasingly angry at Israel's vicious treatment of the Palestinian people, and bewildered by the lack of action from the rest of the world. One day he even asked his father:
"Why is it that only the Palestinians cannot have a state? Why doesn't America help? Why don't the other Arab states help?"
The other boys, Anwar Hamdona and Yousef Zaqout, aged 14 and 15 respectively together with Ismail realising that even after the Jenin bloodbath, the Ummah would sit on their hands, decided to take matters into their own hands. They decided to attack Netzarim, a Jewish settlement near their home, with what they had: kitchen knives. Before leaving, Ismail left a note with a friend to give to his parents after he had left for Netzarim in which he wrote:
"My father, my mother, please try to pray to Allah and to ask Him for me to succeed to enter Netzarim and to kill the Israeli soldiers and to drive them from our land"
They set off for Netzarim in the early evening but returned that same night. The Israeli soldiers had shot and killed them. These Jewish soldiers not content with killing these children, then chose to drive over them repeatedly with their tanks in order to crush their faces, severing Ismail's body in half, and finally threw their mutilated bodies to the dogs, because that is what you do with 'rubbish'. But have no fear for these children, indeed amongst the favours which Allah bestows upon the Shahid is that he shall feel no more pain upon his death than a pricking of a needle, and indeed they are with Allah in the hearts of green birds, perched in lanterns which hang from the throne of Allah (SWT).

Anwar Hamdona, Ismail Abu Nadi, Yousef Zaqout, these boys: These are my heroes. These names I will, with the permission of Allah never forget, their death has inspired me, and I will use their stories to inspire my children, and instruct my children to use these stories to inspire their children. They shall never be forgotten. Hamas has instructed that children should never again embark on such plans again, indeed children should not have to. It is the responsibility of Men and Women of this Ummah to do this. However, where cowards fear to tread, children feel they must go. I swear by Allah even as tears gush from my eyes that I will follow their example and complete what they began.

Let us tell the children of Palestine that we sincerely feel their pain, and let us vow that we will spend our nights weeping, but our days will be devoted to fighting those who dare to kill them, and that we will not rest until we avenge their deaths, slaughter those who oppress and establish the Deen of Allah so that is it dominant over the World.
