I'm starting this post just to 1. gain some sort of contact with my new brothers and sisters in Islam and 2. to see what prompted you to enter into the fold of Islam after the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01, considering the media portrayl of Muslims.

I'd like to know what attracted you to Islam and what made you come to the decision to become a Muslim?  Also,  how has life treated you since you took shahadah?  How are you enjoying being a Muslim?  I'm curious because when I first took my shahadah I didn't have much interaction with people who just reverted.  Feel free to ad any other feelings or thoughts since your reversion!  Welcome to Islam!

Barakallah!

I first found out about Islam after reading Malcom X's autobiography last may that book had a very deep infulence on my life. At the time I was going through a lot of personal problems and I saw many simularties between his life and mine. In august I saw a documentary about Cat Stevens on VH1 and I became really interested in Islam at the time I had started going to a fundamentalist church and was having some problems with their belief about Jesus (pbuh) that he was divine. At the start of the School year I had signed up for a class on Islam at school. After september 11 I did not really care what the media had to say I always have thought that corporate media lies. After september 11 I began to distrust christianity and began to feel it was a lot of lies specifically since I found contradictions in the bible and the pastor could not answer my questions rationally. I started meeting with an Imam read a little bit of the Quran and decided to take my shahadda. It felt natural, it felt like the best day of my life
Jazakullah Khair!

Welcome to Islam brother.  I pray that everything goes well for you.  It won't be easy but that's the beauty of it.  If it were easy there would be no separation of good and bad.  The strength and beauty of Islam comes from the struggle, I believe.  Prophet Muhammad [saw] and his Sahabah went through many struggles in Mecca in the early days of Islam, but it was all worth it in the end.  I give you this advice:  No matter what, whatever situation you may face, remember Allah and seek his pleasure before anyone else.  Even your own at times, you'll see.  I love hearing the story of someone coming to Islam and that's why I originally wrote this post, to hear stories of those who came to Islam after an event that has changed the way people think of Islam.  I do admit that Islam has much more coverage now after Sept. 11th and that is good and bad.  I just say welcome!   [slm] ;-)
