[slm], the best gift i think my parents ever recieved from people for my little twin siblings (now five) has been clothes and money! Clothes are great because you can always find some sale, and littl' kids are always getting clothes dirty. :) money is also good, no matter the amount because it is not always easey to tell want parents might need, this way they can buy want they need or save for their kids! hope this was helpful! Wasalam, red :) |

[slm] Wow- Lots of babies in my neck of the woods too! Hand monogram stuff with the babies names on it- is my favorite gift to give. From towels, blankets, bonnets to sweaters. However, my friend had a girl... finally- after a bunch of sons! I got her the frilliest, pinkest, outfit I could find! After all that blue and green... she was tickled pink! |

[color=Teal] [slm] sisters, Depending on the sister and if she already has a child, some of my friends have given clothes or things to the mother instead. :) For example nice outfits and shoes that you wear at home, if you catch my drift. ;) A bouncee chair or a swing is a really nice gift. I like to give babyclothes that are for a year later. :-* [wlm] Marcie[/color] |

Assalamu'alaikum :-) I like clothes too. Usually give them as well. But I also like to give 'lil knick knacks and gadgets for mommy and baby. I've given a baby bathtub, that can be used from infant till toddler. Since my friend had a toddler when she had her second, the bathtub is useful to give a bath to both of them at one go. There's also this lamp where there are moving pictures that will slowly go round and round in the lamp. When you dim the lights of the room and switch on this lamp, then, there is this soft glow, and the image will be shown on the walls of the room. They have themes like Under the sea.. and In the Garden. It can also be a night light. I also like to give toys like mobiles. They also have a fan that you can clip at the stroller/ pushchair during those hot summer days. How about some bottles or baby cutlery? They also have this play mat, that have lovely textures, a mirror attached, some attached toys that makes noise. You know wot would be nice? Giving thematic gifts... Like the bathtub and a cute baby towel, with a triangular piece that can cover the head? and maybe.. bath toys... a rubber duckie? ;) Oh the things they have at Toys R Us and Mothercare! Ermm... I think wot would be a nice addition are nasyid songs for 'lil children/ babies... maybe from Adam's world? OK, take care! Wassalam :) |

[slm] If you really want to be unique- give the Mom a special gift- just for her- and nothing to do with the baby. Ps- A meal cooked once a week is probably one of the best gifts i got. |

here is a pre labor gift. A Sister came to my house and offered to clean anything in my house for me. I asked her to clean my oven! With my belly and the pregnant woman's aversion to smells- I just could not do it! It is one of the few gifts i remember- 8 years later! |

[slm] as a new mum of a 4 month old son i was hoping that someone would buy me one of those diaper genies..it's like a bin for all the baby's nappies/dypers which when you put them into the bin it wraps it up and seals it tight internally and you get no foul smells and it's very tidy too!! no massive bag in trh bathroom full or smelly nappies/dypers..justy one bin and no smell and no sight of nappies. also the walkie talkie things for babies and parents. another great gift is a vibrating bouncy chair but nothing beats money!!!! |

Assalamualaikum, You know, ...a lot of people are expecting/have had babies in my community recently as well. I must admit, it's so much fun shopping for baby clothes. They're just sooo cute & stylish lol. How come OshKosh doesnt make clothes for me :'(. I miss those corduroy overalls - embroidered lil sweaters and all...I'm kidding..but as you can guess, I enjoy shopping for/giving clothes. I went to visit a friend just yesterday. She had a baby boy a week ago. MashaAllah he's suchhhh a cutie. :-* Well, I hope everyone's doing well.. Take care, ws Somaira :-) |

as salaamu alaykum, one thing I know for sure *not* to get a mother or mother-to-be.. any toy that makes noise. one mother told me, "the little song the toy plays might seem cute the first time.. but listen to it 2436 times non-stop and it loses its cuteness!!" :P hehe :) |

Asalamu Alaikum, YEa clothes and money sound great, but whyn ot try something different? They have a lot'a neat things out there, like a ceramic set, u mix the clay yourself, have your baby dip his/her hands or feet in it, its a special memory, unique things are always remembered :-* As for the mother, I dont know maybe something that would help her out with the baby, or get a little personal anf give the mother individual attention by getting her lotion, body wash, some fragrance for the house or something liek that. I think thats what I would want after having a baby, why should the baby get all the attention ;) Dont get me wrong, i LOVE babies! :-* |

[/quote] [wlm] My husband had a coronary when I did this, using my son's hand. He felt it was too close to idol making.... You may want to check with the parents first. There is one set that merely makes an impression in plaster. The other set gives a 3-d look. |
