| (bro abu atheek: when you said you had to leave for a while because you'd become an addict, is that like, um, you think of something and you feel compelled to come here and write it?? eh oh.... um better think about this....) so, um me and kathy: yesterday mujaahid told me he thinks kathy and i have similar personalities! i said, um i haven't seen that.....what do you mean? mujaahid is so silly----he said, oh i don't know you just do! maybe it's because you're both americans!!! :D :D the "american female personality"..yeah, right you silly... but anyway, i got to thinking about it, because he's often quite insightful without even being able to express it or explain himself, and.....what did i realize? yep, there are some things that are alike (here at least) between us that i don't share with anyone else here that i can remember.. kathy and i........write asides in our posts. sometimes write these asides to ourselves. sometimes refer to ourselves in the third person within our own posts. and ---- sorry for this sis, but i, um >gulp< noticed this, too-----each of us are sometimes kind of blunt in ways that sound sharp, though we never ever ever mean to hurt anyone... :'( so this was quite interesting and curious to me. who else here has seen a mirror image of themselves? (like the "separated at birth" books of pictures from news stories of notables who resemble each other sometimes to a surprising degree. but a warning to anyone who looks for this book: it's from "spy" magazine, a really reactionary bunch of boys. and though it has some amazing pictures, some you just can't believe are so alike, because of who publishes it it therefore contains misogynistic comparisons as well as anti-arab comparisons, at least in the one i have, which is from gulf war time. in other words, don't buy it, at least not new. the edition i have is from a yard sale and i didn't "get" the whole picture until after i got it home.) i can think of a few personality or style "pairings" here, but what i'd be most interested in is which ones people see for themselves! and then of course also the ones other people have to point out to us! and how we or they disagree!! hee heeee we are all so funny! mwishka |

| :-/ ok, i was able to write down ten pairs without batting an eye.... now i have fifteen, but some of them need a littel fine tuning, as in making sure they're the best matches. and i think there are a couple of "triplets", too. BUT, i'm not divulging mine until at least a few other people contribute, because then it will be all messed up, and no one will have as untainted a view toward finding their own closest personality "match" here..... hmmm br khalid and br abdul basir --- i see what you mean, in a certain kind of way...but other ways....hmmmm......maybe not quite a match. just a feeling...will think about it (um..."feel" about it some more...) but maybe you're completely right... mwishka |

| bro salik, you, and bro dirt are in the next batch! i have to go to sleep, so i decided to go ahead and "release" this many. for now, here are the first, um 15 is it? that were just right off the top of my head. i have a second batch of 10 with just a couple i'm not sure of yet, and a third batch of 10 that are not all matched yet.... so, um, i realized maybe i should send these to kashif for proofreading and maybe censoring (eek!), but i THINK they're ok. please, i've been known to be, um wrong in my estimation of what is and is not wrong (oh so wrong you could never EVER believe! :o) so, please help me out if i've messed up here at all...... mwishka (whose whiskers are twitching with fright just a little now that she's posting these.....) p.s. remember, some are personality but some are just style of posting or language... <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> bro hanif and bro kashif so proper and so english ( < ok, i know, but british didn't sound right either. it's that "english" thing....) mohja and nouha very sweet, a little shy in posting anas and ltcorpest sometimes on the offense sofia and umm ahmad very knowledgable, community oriented umm wafi and 7 similar style of advice abu atheek and jaihoon for their metaphorical or rhetorical distance in language and ideas bro 'uthmaan and flyboy_nz some sort of similar off-handed attitude in their posts mentallect and peaceseeker can be terse, bordering on sharp (sorry, sis metallect, i hope it's ok! eh oh.....but i know peaceseeker would let me say this...) soulman and peaceman posts with little or no comment, mysterious (and that "man" at the end of their names....he he nah, just kidding about that. what a coincidence! maybe it means more than i thought...) < < soulman, your post this afternoon threw me off. i'd already written this..... kathy and jannah mothering but terse, and with great concern for the intregrity of the madina zara and ahmer literate but tend to be self-deprecating bro hamayoun and lightningatnite very knowledgable and kind, wise words but infrequent appearances laila and cara j curious, eh? has to do with their mothering here but at the same time we "mother" them as the accepting family we are to each of them zomorrud and muneerah134 and dawn um, not completely sure why....just a feeling in their posts - articulate and confident, maybe? eleanor and hayal some similar sense of, um willing to put out opinion, but holding back in some way |

| [slm] I'd have to disagree with most of your list Mwishka. :D Many of the people on here I have known for years and they aren't anything like people you have matched them up with. But its good to keep some things a mystary and keep people guessing. :P |

| ah yes, bro bhaloo, but remember that first, this wasn't just intended for me alone to be matching people up, it was first for people to be matching themselves. but no one seemed to want to be doing that. and i didn't want to put up my own list for this very reason: it's much easier to disagree with something once it's written - i didn't want to just generate a series of disagreements about my own list, that's what i was trying to avoid and was trying to get people to think of themselves and other madina people without just looking at some list.... and the only other things i'll add are, first, that there are similar characteristics between the people i've listed, though maybe ONLY to the extent i've mentioned, and, second, of course the longer you know people the more you know about them. for almost all of these people, i can only assess the limited exposure i've had to them in some very limited contexts here. so, bro bhaloo, who are you most like here? or to answer mike's question, who would you most like to BE like?? mwishka (and why was it so hard to get in here? it took me 6 tries again.....) |

I will have to read soem of sis Sofia's posts and see if we *really* are alike. I have not been here very long, lol, but as time goes by, I will inshaAllah, be able to recognise these inherent similarities amongst the members here. Was just thinking about the only member I know really well, Shahida, and wondering if anyone was like her here? Hehe, she always laughs, but the 2 of us are quite similar *in real life*:) Maybe we are similar on the board too? Give me time to post some more, then you can tell us! | sis umm ahmad - "my" shahida?! hee heeee....no, i couldn't find a match for her here yet. and i'm kind of thinking that the more i know about people here or the better i know them, the harder they become to match, because i can't remember their primary characteristics anymore that i had from my first impressions of them. there are only about five or so people on this list that i know some, and only two or three of those that i know more than that. i actually tried to be sure to match the people i knew more first, since they might indeed feel left out if i didn't, but ---for anyone i know who's not on this list! --- similarities didn't come to mind for all of them. actually, a quality that is obviously being taken into consideration in my pairs, but is only stated implicitly in my "explanations" is "role at the madina", sometimes community role, sometimes personal approach to the madina, sometimes general "impression" as a community member. he heee i should have started this list way back when! and...hmmmm...it might be most revealing for newcomers, rather than long time participants, to provide their first or second impression similar-trait views. i've been reading at the madina since the old board, and some of the madinans i had a feel for back then don't come here as much, just like some of the people i had more of a feel for when i first registered are not necessarily the same ones here the most now. at the madina, nope, you and shahida are not very similar..... :D interesting to know if this is because not differences in your personalities, but differences in your approach to "community".....hmmmm well, i would love to have other people share their impressions of people they identify with here, or similarities that just knock them over! don't think i'll be putting up the rest of my lists soon..... um, bro bhaloo: my impression is that you have a lot of similarity to bro kashif, and there are a number of temperament similarities and a shared resourcefulness in providing information between you and abu hamza - with some very basic differences in both cases, but bro asim?? that one i don't feel. hmmm..interesting. mwishka |

Asim has been around a long time, and we have a lot of things in common, many times when these brothers post, I think to myself, I'm glad they said that, thats what I was thinking, and they save myself a lot of time. |

| dear bro abu atheek, bro jaihoon would never, i think, feel dishonour at such a comparison - though of course i can't speak for him. what is less than favorable here is perhaps my incomplete explanations of the comparisons i was making between many madinans... if i had properly described the association that occurs in my mind between you and bro jaihoon, i should have said something more like this: these two, one description.... a bottomless well of devotion and piety, a limitless source of profound insights, a true slave to Allah - these whose words may cause some of us to feel a distance from where they reside, but that distance from us is just a measure of the shortened length of that long long distance to god for them. mwishka |
