I have notes from Sidi Hamza Yusuf's lecture and insha'Allah i will post it here soon. He was off the hook masha'Allah as always!!! He is such a source of inspiration for all of us.. I was a little worried at first when I got there, not as many people as I had expected, but by the end lotssss showed up. The women's session was good too... | [slm] Here is a short summary of what Shaykh Hamza Yusuf said at the conference. The moving part of the conference was the speech of Imam Siraj Wahaj before Hamza Yusuf. Imam Siraj was scheduled to speak for 30 minutes but he came and said, "I love you Hamza and I am going to give you a gift, I haven't listened to you for a long time, and i wanna listen to you so i will give you all my time.." (takbeer.... Allahu Akbar) Imam Siraj spoke for only 10 minutes and gave the rest of his time to Hamza. Perhaps he too felt the absence of Hamza Yusuf on the east coast. Here are some of the highlights of his speech - These are incredible times, This is when Nazila occurs, which is a great tribulation. But you keep doing things. You don't stop. - We should think how my life is good for you and how my death is good for you. - The biggest war criminal of all times, Gorbachev who killed 1.5 million Afghans during the Afghan war, when he was the head of the KGB, is heading a human rights organization and he lives in Denver, Colorado. - This is fitnah and fitnah in Arabic comes from fatana which means to test gold for impurities. fitnah is worse than bloodshed. The hadith, 'People are like minerals', and there are toxic minerals too that radiate and harm others. - Someone asked Syedna Ali [r.a] 'When Abu bakr and Omar were caliphs, everything was peaceful and quiet, why is it that when you became the caliph there is no peace! , Ali [r.a] replied, "when Abu Bakr and Omar were ruling they had followers like Usman and Ali , and When I am ruling I have followers like you' - The opposite of Jahiliyyah is Hilm not knowledge, when you show perseverance in the face of adversity and not panic or become emotional you can fight jahiliyyah or ignorance. - There is a lot of good left in the muslim world. When i was in morocco recently, i spoke to common people, the cab drivers, everyone i spoke to, I spoke of Allah, and every person was asking for forgiveness from Allah. |
