Follow up to July 4

praise be to Allah July 4th went very well. Myself and 2 other individuals went down to the plaza and distributed numerous flyers about the situation in Palestine and what people can do to become involved. i personally handed out over 750 pamphelts. There were a couple incidents the police hassled me and said that they had a report that i was handing out "terrorist propaganda in support of Al Qaida" and hassled me.  I showed them a flyer and they ran my drivers liscence and they let me go though. A couple people cursed me out I dont think it was because of the flyer but the tee shirt i wsa wearing which said "Islam is not the Enemy". Also one thing that I plan on changing in the future is not to put my home phone # on the flyer for people to contact if they want to get involved instead i plan on putting my email address. This is because I got a phone call from someone last night who told me that they hated muslims and jews and that when his people cam to power they would wipe us off the face of the earth and that i was a "f...... dead man". I called the police and filed a report but in the future i will be more careful not to give out my home # every other time I had gotten calls in the past it was always from people who were interested in becoming involved and wnated to find out more about the situation in Palestine. Anyways inshaAllah I hope some peoples mind change about the situation in Palestine and that they call Mr McNulty's # on the flyer and tell him that they want him to support the self determination of the Palestinian people.

brother yunus,

that's great that you all did that!

i have to say that if the police had said to me that they had had a complaint i was handing out 'al-qaeda terrorist literature' that it would have made me burst out laughing so hard i think i would have fallen down and rolled around on the ground and been unable to get up! :-/    i haven't heard anything so funny in a LONG LONG time.  well, unless maybe it was that israeli govt. official who said someone in my group had said the purpose of our trip was to go into palestine to "incite and agitate" --- i thought THAT was the funniest "serious" thing someone could say, but the cops who said that to you definitely deserve credit for being funnier!  i can't even imagine that they themselves wouldn't have been rolling on the ground if someone told them to investigate such a "complaint" --- that is so ridiculously absurd!  did they have straight faces when they told you that was the complaint??

ok, i'm going on about this for too long, but it's just cracking me up imagining it......  :D

mwishka (who laughed so hard she cried...)

(yes, what you experienced is definitely one of the dangers of giving out a home phone numbers.  i'm sorry that happened to you.  i know of other incidents around here like that, connected to palestine...)

Mashallah, very good brother Yunus.  They should be able to find out who this nut case was that called you, phone calls can be traced, and I'm sure they have a record.

If you were spreading "terrorist propaganda for al-Qaida" or any information for that matter,  since when did that become a crime?  Or is there no such thing as freedom of speech?

bro yunus,

i was looking in the phone book today for the code to unblock my phone number, and i came across something that might  prove useful to you if you receive any more harrassing phone calls, though i hope you'll be protected from having that happen.  the code to trace calls is *57.

a number of years ago i was getting harrassing calls, and tried to get the police and the phone company to trace them - i remember they gave me a code to use, but the catch was that the caller had to stay on the line for something like 45 or 50 seconds.  unfortunately my caller was a "professional", so he always hung up just a few seconds short of the time necessary to establish a trace.

you could call and find out the details from the phone company.  it said the traced number is sent directly to some cetralized policing place.
