Salaam Alikum There was a meeting last week that was a followup to the Rally on June the 5th in which we disscused both the positives and negatives of the Rally what we could do better and what we want to do insha Allah in the future. Insha Allah there will be another meeting this wednesday at the Albany Public Library from 6-9 a room will be held under the group name Stand for Peace. Here are the notes from what we disscussed at the last meeting: Notes from meeting held on June 27th at the Social Justice Center to follow up on the Rally held on June 5th Against Israel's Occupation of Palestinian and Bush's Open ended War on Terrorism These are the items we touched upon. General agreement to work on a major educational event in mid to late Sept. The concept of a debate with the counter demonstrators was turndown, but it may be possible to fit into a forum that represents many different viewpoints. The flier used for the rally was more than just an announcement of an event, but a political program to build upon and use. The rally was very positive, well-attended, with great discipline. The rally drew attendees from the Palestinian community, a large Jewish contingent (both Zionist and non-Zionist) and from the Muslim community. Many new faces attended. A complete list of speakers and endorsing organizations are below. The rally aided networking among the wide variety of individuals and organizations working the issues. Nothing was planned specfically for Sept. 11. There will be the weekly Albany peace vigil which is held every Wed. and this year Sept. 11th falls on a Wed. Support the activities that are being done or will be done throughout the summer & fall including: Attending the weekly peace vigils held in the region. Every Wed at Noon at the New York State Capitol. Especially on Sept. 11 which falls on a Wed. Other regional vigils are held in Troy, Schenectady and Hudson on Saturdays.
