Christian before Muslim

Assalamu alaikum all

I was a Chrsitian before converting to Islam.  I am very knowledgable of the scriptures in the christian Bible.  I am becoming more knowledgeable of the Quran.

I have heard Minister Farrakhan (who was also a Chrsitian) before Islam, quote many scriptures verbally and in writing, from the king James version (christian bible).

I was telling another brother about when i do speak to other Christians, I often quote the scriptures from their bible to shed the light on whatever the subject we are discussing.  They are not going to comprehend the Quran which i am still learning.

When I shared this with the brother he said that I can not mix the bible with the Quran (quote scriptures).  I feel that i am not mixing the Bible witht hte Quran I am telling the Christian what their Bible says.  For example.  I was talking with my daughter who is a new convert to Christianity and she has a failure to commuinicate oftentimes in almost all issues.  When she could not comprehend what I was saying about ISLAM, I quote their bible in ISAIAH Chapter 1:18 COME NOW, and lets reason together.  Another (Moses) said that God is the God of the East, West and in between and their bible says Psalms 24, the earth is the Lord and the fullnest thereof and we All belong to the same ONE God.

Knowing I was a Chrsitian before ISLAM, my daughter said asked "how are you going to tell me abut Chritianity when you area MUSLIM"? No offense my child, but as I have stated I was a Christian before ISLAM.

How else am i going to be able to converse with other Christians if I can not speak their scripture language?  To know the Jehovah Witness bible, the Moromon Bible, King james and the Quarn is truly a blessing.

In a natural illustration:  If I am speaking to a say spanish speaking person, who speaks spanish only, and I speak Arabic, spanish and english.  Which language will i use to converse with the sapnish speaking person, to communicate.  SPANISH.  Same with the relegions.  Let them know that you know what is in their bible in case they forget or do not know.  I beleive it is an honor to have knowledge of other relegions, and I strongly believe we should all know about others.

ANother illustration:  If a lawyer becomes a judge.  he still knows about LAW.  If he becomes a doctor, he still knows about being a judge and a lawyer.

I am the first to admit I am wrong and IF I am please feel to correct me, for I do not want to offend ALLAh in anyway.  It is badge of honor to accept construtive criticism.

Without provoking an arguement here,  I thought that most muslims did not believe that the Nation of Islam was a true Islamic faith.  I have heard some intersting things about him and his views.  Here is one that i just saw quoted.  Forgive me if it is out of context.

"White people are potential humans…they haven’t evolved yet."

I really can not respond to your comments.  I do not know all the answers myself.  never will.  Please ask this question of those more abreast in what you commented on.

Where did you read the statement Potential white people or white peple haven't evolved yet.  Could it mean that white people haven't revolved mentally?  Do you preceived this as a physical evolution?

There was a documentary on DISCOVERY Channel about who the REAL EVE WAS.  Maybe this documentray can shed much light on many of our Unanswered  questions about how we all became the pigmentation we are.  It sure had MUCH TRUTH in it.  when you find the answers share them.  Thank you for your reply.  No need to be concerned about agruments.  I am willing to discuss.  never argue the word of ALLAH.

salaam

I to am a recent convert from christianity (seventh day adventist) to Islam. I also too used to speak with many of my christian friends and aquantinces about Islam and it as an extension of the message of all the prophets of God peace be upon them and use biblical quotations to support my arguments. I have found that this does not work. It depends on what type of christian the person is if the person belongs to. If some one belongs to an evangelical or "fundamentalist" sect such as many babtists groups, seventh day adventists, jeohovah witness etc they already come into any disscussion with their own preconcieved notion about the bible and their own serprate beliefs about that scripture which differ widely from one sect to the other. The bible itself in my opinion is a very confusing and haphazardly constucted document. Its good that you are learning more about the Qur'an and Islam as I am also. I feel that instead of relating to someone through the bible if would be a good dawah oppurtunity to show them the simularitys between the Quran and the Bible. Yes you should relate to them but you can do it throught the Quran and dont have to use the bible. Also they already "know" the bible you can use theis oppurtunity to teach them a little about Islam. As for qouting from the bible I dont see anything wrong with that but we must always remember that the bible is man made and many lies have been inserted into it about Jesus and other Prophets. We must always remember that the only true book of God is the Quran.

As for the Nation of Islam I believe the Minister Farrakhan as done Islam a disservice. He has promoted his own religion and as not brought the hanger ons to the nation to the true path as Elijah Muhammad's son Fard Muhammad has done. I belive minister farrakahan knows the truth but he chooses not to do so. What Farrakahan and Elijah Muhammad have done is not really Islam it is its own seperate sect based on a loose interpretation of the Quran the bible and black nationalism to support a racist ideology and a new religion lead 1st by Elijah muhammad now farrakahan as the charasmatic leader. I would take anything farrakahan says with a "grain of salt"

salam alaikum,

*There was a documentary on DISCOVERY Channel about who the REAL EVE WAS.  Maybe this documentray can shed much light on many of our Unanswered  questions about how we all became the pigmentation we are.  It sure had MUCH TRUTH in it.  when you find the answers share them.*

I havent seen this documentary, but I would like to say that I read somewhere in one of my books ( I can try and find it if anyone is interested) that the reason we are so many colors and temperments is because when Allah (swt) created us He sent an angel to the earth to collect clay (soil, dirt) from it. The angel collected clay from all different parts of the earth..some red, some dark, some white, ect... Then Allah created us from that...and thats why we are all so different alhamdulilah. I thought it was so interesting when I read it. No one is better than anyone else, just in taqwa and righteousness, alhamdulilah.

Please share some highlights of this documentary if you can, im really interested!

Which brings me to a more serious question:  Do some or most muslims believe in a young earth or an old earth? and where does evolution come into play with muslims?  Fatimah,  I am not sure about the clay bit.  I have been to cold climates and warm climates and the clay and soils look the same all over.  It seems dark people are in places where there is more intense tropical type sun and fairer skinned people are in cooler or less sunny climates.

Haadiya,  i won't touch that one, maybe someone else can enlighten me on that!!!

also, can someone explain how the quote thing works,  i can highlight and pull up a segement of someone else's quote, but it doesnt have the cute box around my quotes.

when you click on the Quote button under a person's post it takes their post and puts [ quote ]
around that text and that makes that box around it

you could also just put [ quote ]
(without spaces) around any text for the quote box...

assalamau alakium all

Shukran 4 all the replies.

1.  I recorded the REAL EVE on Discovery channel about two months ago.  The pigmentation of the skin of all people was a result of the climate they lived in as they journed through the earth in accordance to the documentary.  Eve in acordance to Discovery channel was indeed an African.  I love Discovery Channel , History channel, The Learning channel, and of course History.  The rest of t.v. I can do without.

2.  Quoting scriptures from the American Bible.  I will just say PEACE to the person who fails to want to learn or REASON TOGETHER.

3.  As for Minister Farrakan, I am not totally familiar with him.  I do know that he is doing the job the president should be doing by going overseas to speak with the leaders there.  He as we all do, have flaws, but I give him a standing ovation for this service that the President fail to do.  I would stand on the side of the one that did not buy their way into the white or was bought in by those who wanted him in.

4.  I am just glad to be on the side of right (ISLAM) when wrong happens and WRONG will happen.

5.  I agree that the King James Version (American Bible) have a lot of confusion in it.  I just read that it had I beleive 36, 191 translation errors.
There is some truth in it, but one need to have the Spririt of Discernment to discern what is and what is not.

Shukran again

We are all from Adam (as).  Allah created us in different colors, shapes, sizes, etc. so that we would differ in appearence.  So that we wouldn't all look the same.  It doesn't matter if Adam and Eve were from Africa.  How will this help us now.  Islam does away with color and nationality.  True Islam teaches us that we are all equal in the eyes of Allah.  People...especially scientist would perfer saying that the human race evolved from monkeys, rather than acknowledge the existence of Allah (swt).  Let me recommend a really good website. http://www.hyahya.org/
Read through some of his books about Darwinism and Evolution.  Very good website, and you can read/download his books for free.  InshaAllah this website will be of great benefit.

On a different note...Before the final prophet Mohammad (saw) passed away over a thousand years ago, he revealed to his umma that there would be a large number (I forgot exactly how many) of minor dajjals who would falsely claim to be prophets of Allah.  True Islam is for every human on earth.
