The other day (wednesday) I went to kabobshish and found it closed   :(
It looked kind of deseterd so I wondered if it has closed down for good
From there I proceeded to the downtown Shalimaar and to my surprise they also serve non Halal chicken >:( .
so the next time you go there please be sure to ask for Halal chicken

*Food for thought*
Yeah I don't know anything about whether or not the restaurant is closed but what's up with the halaal and non halaal stuff? I still don't get why some muslims' opinion that if it's not "halaal" it cannot be eaten. They are of course 'People of the Book' that slaughter the meat! Don't be so extreme, say Bismillah and eat! What if there was no so called halaal meat/chicken for thousands of miles, do you become a vegetarian??? There's nothing wrong with going the easy road.

well the people of the book had two things (like we have)

1) They did cut in the name of god(allah swt) -Even as the jews still do today

2) They slaughtered their meat in a particular way that is cutting of the juglars not chopping the head off in one go- Even as the jews still do today

Do the present day christians follow both?

I wonder if it is allowed to eat the meat when

a Muslim cuts an animal in any other name than Allahs
or
He takes the name of Allah swt and chops the head off at one go

Siddiqui....I believe it IS allowed because when the Quran came down, Christians, for example, had taken Jesus as God and/  the son kf God because it says so in the Quran that means it was known they had taken partners w/ Allah (swt) . At the same time, to my knowledge, it is still permissable to eat from them. I will research for ayat & ahadith though.

My opinion is that even "halal" food is not halal. It is slaughtered correctly but the condition that the animal is treated prior to slaughter in US agro busissness is not in accordance with Islam. I doubt that any chicken that you buy in america is feed vegitarian feed in fact many animal feed have animal parts or byproducts. The life of animals in these slaughter houses is horrible they are often abused phyiscally, mentally tortured, injected with hormones etc, confined in jail like cells.

The Qur'an says that you should not overburden a camel. Also there is a saying of the prophet pbuh that who ever is kind to animal does something good for himself. As far as I am concerned if you are not supposed to overburden a camel i doubt physically and mentally abousing animals and treating them in horrible conditions is not halal. I suggest that muslims find local farmers who treat their animals well feed them organic feed and they go their and kill their own animals. Or people should eat fish, hunt etc. I wouldnt suggest buying food from halal buisness that buy their animals from slaughter houses.

I have seen many videos about what happens to animals before they go to slaughter at these types of places and it is horrible. Also the mass production of meat is bad for the enivonment it takes so much water and other resources to produce a cow. I have heard that for the amount of calories 1 cow produces you could get over 10 times the amount of calories from tomatoes if you used the same resources. The mass production of meat is hurting the enviornment and the world. if you want to eat meat dont eat it every day in fact during the kalifa of umar he made a decree that meat could not be eating to days in a row.

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah,

whoa.. y'all let's chill with the fatawa.  Scholars differ on this because there are a lot of issues involved.. two being the ones mentioned here; who exactly are considered 'ahlul kitaab', and the treatment/feed of animals as br. Yunus described.

Br Mokhtar actually did a *really* interesting session on this, and used as his resources some documents from the USDA.. the things it described were sick :(   I remember for like two months afterwards no one in the community ate any meat :P

ps - the restaurant in the food court 'the Bombay Grill' says all their food is halal.

wasalaamu alaykum :-)
