didn't see this place to introduce myself

;)Hi, I am a Buddhist studying Islam right now. I am reading the Qur'an and researching online.  I have studied the Old Testament and the New Testament somewhat and am now interested in the Qur'an.  It was about 10 years ago that I was at my uncle's house for Shabbas dinner on a Friday night ( some of my family are Jewish ) and I learned that the Jewish people and the Muslims are cousins.  I had no idea. It really got me thinking about how many can hate each other so much.  I had much more opportunity to study Judaism then and became immersed in it at one point.  I even thought I could convert but I went back to Buddhism because I remember the teachings in Judaism that women are "soiled" during her menses and all the stuff about if a man sat where a woman on her menses was sitting then he is dirty until evening. And also my uncle told us that many Orthodox Jewish men pray in the begining "Thank you for not making me a woman" or something like that and I stopped there.
Buddhism has been wonderful for me in the past but then as I studied it more and more I realized that many Buddhists today have strayed from what Buddha has taught (not all of it though...the basics of Buddhism are being followed I believe) like making statues of him when he told not to make any likes of him.  I learned that many people believe that Buddha is God and I knew myself that is not true.  Also I family owned a Japanese restaurant and the Reverends of the Buddhist Temple near by would come in and drink all the time.  I know that in Buddhism one must not use drugs or the like....  so there it was, the Reverends are doing what they shouldn't!!  OH well, so they are human, yes, but obviously, Buddhism has changed far from the original path in many ways.
Wow, this is way too long, sorry all. I will try to not be too much longer.  Well, I learned that Islam is the complete religion and that Mohammed is the last messenger so I decided to start studying it and so far I am very interested.  I remember going in a Islam chat room and the next day my email was bombarded by some Christians delivering news of the evils of Islam....  it did make me ask questions of Islam but I got the answers and I now know that all of those emails were from some people ignorant of the religion.   I even read the bible here and there also to see what these people were trying to say... well, I even found a few verses on women in the Bible that disturbed me! like:
"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I don't permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner" (I Timothy2 :11-14)
After reading all those Christian messages about how Islam is horrible for women....and then I read this in the Bible... hmmm

And then about how the dress code for Islamic women is degrading?I read this in the Bible one day shortly after:

Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonours his head. And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head - it is just as though her head were shaved. If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or shaved off, she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head" (I Corinthians11 :3-10).

hmmm...and covering is degrading huh?
I don't know things just got so confusing for me...  so here I am now reading the Qur'an and not feeling so confused about the religion so far  :)
But boy oh boy can religion be such a heated subject to speak about with people...  :)  noone used to understand why I could not choose one religion. I have always and still do believe that the core of most religions are all the same...
I can't explain it but right now, I am looking for answers and it seems as though the Qur'an may give them to me.
I am so sorry this got so long.
