| Minutes from June 5th Coalition follow up meeting Wednesday, July 10, 2002 Present: Zuhair Alatwi, Dough Bullock, Cathy Callan, Mardi Crawford, Tom Ellis, Yśnus Fiske, Peter Jellett, , Joe Lombardo, Sami Massoud, Mel Staley Discussion about next steps led by T. Ellis produced the following suggestions: · Hold a teach-in or forum at SUNY Albany after 9/11. · Organize a letter writing campaign to McNulty and other influential politicians. · Tie an event into activities scheduled around the 9/11 anniversary. The group decided to hold an Israeli-Palestinian Teach-in on the SUNY campus inviting numerous speakers to participate throughout the day, and inviting one (or more) nationally recognized personalities as a drawing card if we are able to find the funding. The group also discussed racial profiling of Muslims and people of color as being domestic issues directly connected to the peace movement. Suggested dates for the Teach-in: Tuesday, September 24, Wednesday September 25 or Thursday September 26. Yśnus Fiske will check to see if a lecture hall is available on any of these days. The group will continue to focus on the Israeli-Palestinian crises and will also concentrate energy on domestic peace issues, especially issues related to the War on Terrorism. After much discussion the group came up with a permanent name: Capital District for Justice and Peace We will use this name in all future activities. The June 6th rally flier will be modified for use prior to and during the Teach-in. Mardi Crawford agreed to make necessary changes. Other topics discussed at this meeting: · Holding presentations about Israeli-Palestine crises in churches, synagogues, mosques, etc. · Having teaching parties at private homes. · Holding weekly demonstrations in Albany against Israeli occupation and the War on Terrorism.
