Zayed Centre for New Muslims yesterday passed out 27 new converts who have recently completed a course in the basic teachings and practices of Islam.

They were presented with certificates and gifts by Sheikh Mohammed bin Ali Al Rehma Al Shamsi, Director of the centre, at a ceremony here yesterday.

The converts included 21 women and six men out of which 14 are Filipinos. The rest of the graduates are of other nationalities such as Sri Lankan and Indian, an official of the centre told Gulf News.

The six-month course was specially designed for new converts and the new session of the programme has 30 students. These new Muslims will be finishing their studies by the end of the year, he added.

The official said the centre's educational programme includes Arabic language, teaching of Holy Qur'an, Hadith (Sayings of the Prophet), Aqeeda (Islamic beliefs), Sharia (Law) and Ibaadat (Prayers).

With the help of renowned religious scholars, the programme has been developed to incorporate all the basics of Islam, the knowledge of which is a must for every Muslim.

The programme imparts a complete understanding of the religion to the new Muslims.

"Our programme in the basics of Islam was specially designed keeping in view the new converts who normally have no knowledge or very little understanding of the religion," said the official.

Located just in the outskirts of Al Ain city near Jabel Hafit, the centre was established by President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 1983.

The objective of the centre is to help new Muslims in learning the basic teachings and practices of Islam.

The centre has attained international reputation in its endeavours, and people from different nationalities are benefiting from its facilities.

The centre, he said, has educated more than 3,000 converts from countries around the world.

The centre houses many offices, classrooms, dormitories and separate mosques for ladies and gents.

Life at the centre, which is operating under the patronage of President Sheikh Zayed, is busy as the new converts strive hard to understand more about their adoptive faith, the official said.

He also pointed out that more than 11,000 individuals, including both women and men of many nationalities, have converted to Islam at the centre since its inception.

The teaching staff, which includes people from several countries, is not only qualified but also highly dedicated and eases the difficulties of the new Muslims who face many challenges by changing their faith.

The centre is also publishing books with translations in many languages and sending them abroad to promote the religion as well as help Muslims to understand the most common practices in the faith.

MashaAllah, that is always great news to hear.  May Allahu SubhanaHu Wata'ala keep us guided on the straight path and guide those whom He Wills, ameen.

"...Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light..." (surah An-Nur, 35)
"But Allah doth call to the Home of Peace: He doth guide whom He pleaseth to a way that is straight. " (surah Yunus, 25)
