Just a quick observation: while the name may be intimately familiar in Muslim circles, I doubt it is so universally familiar. And most english speaking parents I know would be hesitant to name their daughter with a name whose first three letters are "Fat" because of what the child's peers (also mostly unfamiliar with the name) will call her when she gets older. |

Assalamu'alaikum... Reminds me of my classmate back in secondary school called Fatimah. Her "glamourous" name was Fat the "a" is pronounced as the "a" in Far. She doesn't seem to mind... but she's far, far away from fat, of course. Quite the opposite. Though I can understand why it is less popular for non-Muslims. Prolly finds it weird.. just as I find Ramsbottom a pretty strange name. I thought that was a made-up name, when I first saw it. No offense to the Ramsbottoms out there. :-* Allahua'lam :-) |
just as I find Ramsbottom a pretty strange name
He, he. Isn't it funny how we find names from other cultures strange. I always thought that my surname was kind of cool, 'cos it's a bit different. My in-laws, however, think that it's weird and, jokingly, suggested that I might want to opt for a "more Muslim sounding name"! And no, my name is not "Ramsbottom". But it's not "Smith" either ... |
