It saddens me everyday to read news like this.  I want to do something yet I don't know, subhanAllah.  May Allahu SubhanaHu Wata'ala grant peace to nations in war and grant us the strength and ability to help our brothers and sisters in battling lands.  Ameen.

At least seven people have been killed and 70 injured in a bomb attack at Jerusalem's Hebrew University.
Many of the wounded are in a critical condition, and a spokesman for the ambulance service said he feared the death toll would rise.

It is not clear whether a suicide bomber detonated the explosives or if a bomb was left in the cafeteria, in the Frank Sinatra building at the university's Mount Scopus campus near East Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Islamic militant group Hamas said it had carried out the attack in revenge for Israel's air strike on Gaza City last week in which one of their leaders was killed along with 14 other people.

The Palestinian Authority condemned the attack - the second in as many days - but said Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was "responsible for this cycle of violence".

Israeli Government spokesman Avi Pazner accused Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat of encouraging such bombings "to avoid making the necessary reforms".

And White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said that US President George W Bush condemned the attack "in the strongest terms".

"This terrorist attack underscores again the need for the Palestinian people and the Palestinian leadership to take action to halt terrorism so that peace has a chance in the Middle East," he said.

The Mount Scopus cafeteria was busy at the time of the blast, with many students taking exams or summer courses at this time of year.

Both Israeli and foreign students were in the cafeteria.

"I was on my way to lunch. There was a huge, huge explosion. Everything shook and then there was this deathly silence," said Alastair Goldrein, a student from England.

"I ran in, there were people lying around wailing, covered in blood. Scenes that are indescribable, clothes and flesh torn apart."

Another witness, Yossi Halfon, said: "The cafeteria was pretty crowded and the blast was in the middle of the room. I didn't see anyone suspicious."

Police spokesman Kobi Zrihen said a body "that would match the description of a suicide bomber" had not been found, suggesting it was a bomb attack.

The BBC's James Reynolds, who is at the scene, says the campus could be considered a fairly high risk area because it is located between two Palestinian areas of the city.

In a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, Hamas said: "It's a part of a series of responses that will take a long time and teach all Israelis."

Israeli police have been braced for suicide bombings - reports say they have intelligence that as many as 60 attacks are being planned.

"Israel is fighting a pitched battle against terror and for the right to walk down the street, take a bus or sit in a cafeteria without the fear of being decimated by Palestinian terrorism," David Baker, an official in Prime Minister Sharon's office said.

Different Palestinian militant groups have vowed to retaliate for the Israeli attack on Gaza.

On Tuesday, a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a food stand in Jerusalem, injuring several Israelis and killing himself.

Ameen.

I watched a report on BBC World News and I thought to try and see what organizations were still able to get money and food into Palestine.  A brother and sister were interviewed and they said they were considering selling their youngest (of 15) for money to feed the rest of the family.  :( :( I made du'a for them immediately. They had absolutely nothing for the children and they were living in Ramallah which is so destroyed it isn't safe or fit for people to live in.
MashaAllah, we can continue to pray for our brothers and sisters who are living in such desparate situations all over the world.
:-) Muneerah  [] (who is also very sad about this.)

Are there any organizations we can be a part of to help these people?  Any volunteer services?  Is there anything at all we can do to help?

Salaam Alikum

I think it is important to pray for peace but brothers and sisters please become involved. As gor doing something there is a lot you can do in your community to help. There are many national orginizations with chapters across the country that you can become invovled with one group i work with is called Stop Us Tax Aid to Israel Now SUSTAIN their webpage is www.sustaincampaign.org go onto the webpage and it lists chapter across the country. It is very sad situation what is happening. What make me feel worse is that at the meetings I go to I am the only muslim there are a couple palestinians there but they are secular or christian. I tell other brothers and sisters but no one comes. When university is in session it is better more muslims help me on campus.

But it is a very sad thing when you go to a meeting and you are the only muslim and the majority of the group who are trying to help the Palestinian people are atheists, agnostics, gays, and jews. What is wrong with the community here in the US that the majority of us dont get invovled? This is jihad the prophet pbuh said "the greates jihad is to speak a true work in the presence of an unjust ruler" this is what we must do we must speak out against US foregin policy that allows this to happen.

If there is not a group in your area orginize one contact SUSTAIN they would love to have more chapters. Hold rallys, peace vigils, call your senator congress people, collect signatures from people to pressure elected officials to end the occupation, hold teach ins, put together speakers bureaus to talk at churchs, have peace walks, orginize dinners where you collect money, letter writing campaigns, just do something! Please feel free to contact me I can tell you what we have done and help you insha Allah get on the right direction email me at yunusfiske@yahoo.com

[slm],

i alway's try to dua for Palestine but sometimes it just does not seem enough. I looked at a couple groups on the internet that actually go to Palestine and volunteer (don't know if they do anymore) but they were all Christian groups. These groups would protest in front of checkpoints and other places that looked prejudice. I forgot the groups name, and now can't find it on the internet, but it was intersting what they had to say.

I think there are many organizations for Palestine, but it's hard to get people to get  involved and stay involved. bro yunus, your right, let your Congress man know that you don't like whats going on, so that it becomes a much bigger issue for voters and in the Congress.

wasalam,
