bro ahmer,

it's ok -- we're all safe now (i thiiiiink....) so it's ok to blow your cover....... ;)    he he sis kathy is sooooooo clever you didn't realize you were involved in this whole nefarious scheme...... :D

and bro ahmer, you heard what sis saadia said --- just consider yourself lucky to have been in the other room!  :D

likewise, dawn - sis kathy's talents are faaaar beyond ours....   you could be involved without even knowing it......

i want an armed scout ship!  wow, what a mouse could do in the world with one of those......!  he he gaza shall fear no more......nor any people under oppression..  er um oops....ya i'm not allowed to have any weapons.  i forgot...

sis truthfinder that is one very very cute little hungry mwishka you found......hee heee looks like a typical snack consumption rate for this um always hungry little mouse....  ;)

but um my first experience with utter seclusion - separate room, made me sad...   i couldn't get enough out of the lectures we heard without seeing the speakers.  we kind of had impromptu rotation of seating to get into the little space in front of the window where the speaker COULD be seen.

(though i'm not including the talk given in bosnian with no translation..... ;)...even though all the non-important words were the same as russian and i could understand them....he he all i missed were the um important words which um gave meaning to the overall talk....    hee heee  i told sis kathy all i could guess what that he was comparing practicing islam in bosnia to islam in binghamton --- but when a translated summary of the talk was given, turns out he was talking about ways to include the bosnian community in the practice of islam at the masjid in binghamton...   oh what a difference a few key verbs and phrases can make...!  ;)  )

and as a result of this separation, me and saadia didn't even get to meet bro ahmer, though he was probably only 20 feet away from us most of the day..... :(        (.......hopefully, ahmer, you'll at least get eventually get the chance to meet up with sis kathy at some point while you're in binghamton......)

(of the three basic types of learning, i'm not in the majority "aural" type of learners.  though there are not clear lines of division of these types of thinking and processing - meaning some people use multiple processing, sometimes dependent on the situation - i am almost a COMPLETE visual learner.  if i can't see it, i can't learn it.  i have to see facial and body expressions that go along with ideas so that i have these as part of the memory of the material i'm trying to learn, or i have to read the material.  and then i process it with physical reactions to the content.  not so complicated as it may sound -- we all do our own version of some combination of these.  the trick is to figure out which combination you use and how to implement it in situations which are adverse to your own natural learning.  and this must be even worse for the "physical" learners, those who learn only by "doing", who have to have motor activity involved in their learning.  actually, i have learned to trick my processors into learning aurally if i involve my body in tasks, like when i want to listen to a lecture i have no transcript of, i will take it in better if i clean my house while i listen, as if busying all other modes frees up my auditory pathways to be able to mimic aural learners....    we are all so alike, but not at all exactly alike.  we are way more variant than sometimes we tend to think......)

eh hem....mouse?

br-r-o dirt...?   :'(  :'(  :'(

momma mod, my bro is saying meeces are nobodies...!    :'(  :'(

he he though of course you're pretty much right bro, since um if that's a real name of a ship, like in um...star wars maybe?  it's true that i don't know it...and i'm not even sure if that's "X" as in "X" or "X" as in "crossed-wing".....    hee heeee  you see, there're a lot of people who kind of seem unfriendly to mice in movie theaters....they act funny, especially if i have a LARGE popcorn and can only come up to see the movie once in a while.... :-/

(it's this black hole in my lab, really, bro dirt.  if a movie isn't shown at the lecture hall a short distance from my building, i probably haven't seen it....   except sometimes, like um that last star wars, which was one of my mere four trips to that giant mall here....   not a very good excuse , eh?  not only do i not know if that's a real term you used, i'm not certain it's from star wars, AND um....well, um i don't think i retain digitized simulation representations very well, or somehing like that.....unless they're he he protein molecules....hmmm...which might blow that excuse---um i mean hypothesis..... :D )

ok, back to um SERIOUS things related to the fateful trip to binghamton, which saadia and mwishka barely survived:

we met ALI!!  and is he cute as the dickens!!  and does he look EXACTLY like sis kathy!!  and is he cooooool!! 8)

and um saadia has the BEST parents in the world!!  (am i allowed to say that?)  her mom gave me the most beautiful hijab you can imagine, as a present for me to wear inside the masjid!  and i heard stories about them (her parents)......they are reaaaally cool, kind of like ali..... ;)....the kind of cool you know would be a good influence on anyone they ever meet or know....

and then after we left, i kind of forgot i was even wearing it.  when saadia and i stopped at a convenience store for return trip snacks, as we were walking out we talked for a moment about how it is and how people react or try not to or are extra friendly.  the two middle-aged women in that gas station were totally nice and kind to us, felt like just plain normal interaction....    but i had forgotten that i even had that story to tell here!   he he and now all my neighbors, who already read my near-trip-to-palestine story in the paper, saw us arrive at my house and i was still wearing it.  (it's reaaaaallly lovely - saadia's mom has really good taste!!)..  just thought i'd tell you all that part of this um otherwise um quite mysteriously confusing and befuddling story.......  :)

Of Mice and Men and Genome Maps
Sun Aug 4, 3:12 PM ET
By Patricia Reaney

LONDON (Reuters) - Scientists have mapped 98 percent of the genome of the mouse in a breakthrough that is expected to speed up the hunt for human genes and improve understanding of how they contribute to diseases.

A consortium of scientists from Britain, Canada and the United States collaborated on the genetic map -- regarded as the most important since the human genome ( news - web sites) was sequenced -- which was published on Sunday on Nature online, the Web Site of the science journal Nature.

"It will help identify the common genes between the mouse and humans," Simon Gregory, leader of the project at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, said in an interview.

Mice and men have a similar number of genes, roughly 30,000, compared to the nematode worm with 18,000 and the fruitfly which has 13,000. But scientists do not know what percentage of genes humans share with the mouse or what all of the genes do.

The genome, or complete list of coded instructions needed to make a mouse, should provide some answers, as well as information that can be used in laboratory research to find the causes and cures for human diseases.

MAJOR MILESTONE

Professor Steve Brown, of Britain's Medical Research Council's Mammalian Genetics Unit, described the mouse genome as a major milestone in the study of genes in humans and mice.

"Together with the mouse draft sequence, it is transforming the science of mouse genetics and will enormously enhance our ability to understand the role of genes in human disease," he said.

Scientists liken the genetic mouse map to a geographical atlas. It gives a picture of the landscape with indexes so users can easily focus on and explore a particular region of interest.

Mice are extensively studied in laboratories throughout the world because they breed very quickly and share many genes with humans. Scientists use mouse models to study human diseases and to develop and test new treatments.

The mouse genome is about 10 percent smaller in size than its human equivalent. Gregory said the map will be improved and further developed and should be completed in 2005.

Researchers are already using the mouse genome, which is publicly available, to study diabetes and cancer. It may also lead to advancements in gene therapy -- replacing faulty genes with normal versions.

"You can accelerate (the research) from the perspective that you can work on genes in the mouse that hadn't previously been worked on in humans," Gregory said.

"Obviously if it is working in a mouse model it gives you better confidence that this particular gene and this particularly method of inserting a gene in DNA successfully may be applied to humans."

Researchers are also mapping the genome of the cow, pig, rat, cat and other animals.

"One of the key features of this project was using the human genome sequence to accelerate the process of mapping out the mouse genome. The enormous success of this approach points the way for tackling many other mammalian genomes," Dr. David Bentley, the head of Human Genetics at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, said in a statement.

Mwishka – I hope ur stomach is ok (I got the inside scoop from saadia). From what I’ve heard about the conference, sounds like a lil trip to ISNA may help our visual-learners.   :)

Wish I were there to meet Kathy and Ali! The Dawah Center sounds really impressive, masha'Allah!

And yes, masha’Allah la quwatta illa billah, our parents rock.

Here is the scoop:
:-[  I heard the little mouse was coming to my town.
It was Mwishka and her driver (more on that later)
:P    I had an idea on how to stop her from writing more than 5 posts.
If you are a Madinat Memeber...you understand....
8) :-) ;-)Members of the Albania mafia joined me in the plan, some knowingly, others not, and one brought her to have a meeting with me.
Saadia, Dawn, Mary & Ahmer.
Saadia somehow made the trip in less than 2 hours...(a 3 hour trip) i wonder how many embarrassing driving stories she must have!
The meeting was an Islamic Conference here in my town and a trip to the new Islamic Awarenss Center we are starting up. :-) :-*  :-);-)
;)    I used cheese to lure the squeaky rodent to the lecture.
:-)It was lunch and my sparkling personality.
[]  She arrived, kissed my ring, met my partner and we shared some food with a bepsi.
[]In honor of the gang here we all choose a Pepsi to drink! Ok ok- she did not kiss my ring as she soon found out why when we discussed gold and marriage!
:(  The mouse ate the cheese...all but not enough to provide the needed dose.
This part is kind of embarrassing.
::)Mwishka said she did not want to eat any meat as it makes her very sick,  and we checked out the lunch. Al humdullillah it was egg salad and veggy burgers.
The veggie burgers were the best i had ever eaten and as we were scarfing them down, I asked the Imam's wife where they came from.  :oYikes...it was beef...with alot of spices that made it look like a veggie burger!! i swear...saadia...back me up!

I begged forgiveness and am still waiting for it... :'(
;-) The other Albania mobster- who continues to have alliances with both the Northern branch and Southern branch was there...but never seen. His mission was accomplished yet he was gone before kudos were given.
;-) Ahmer...he sent some great books and we were trying to ahold of him to thank him...but he left before we found a little boy to deliver a message.
:-)   I failed the mission. the mouse lives....to post....
:o    But something fishy happened...before...and then there was a dead body....after....
My fish tank's pump got reversed and a couple of hours before the conference started we discovered about 8 gallons of water had seeped into our living room.

And then at one point in the conference my hubby came to tell me that our apartment had a police tape around it because they found a dead body in the red car - which belonged to the husband who just moved out from his home due to marital difficulties.

So needless to say... I couldn't invite them to come over for a deliciouse chocolate fudge truffle cheese cake I had made....

sis kathy,

i was starting to wonder if you were going to get around to telling the story..or if you were going to make me do it....  hee heeee  i see you chose the option which would um take up the least space here.... ;)

sis kathy i am REALLY sorry i forgot those enzymes...   heee hee i'm so unused to even the IDEA that meat will be somewhere that i just kind of forgot to remember them....  maybe by the next time i meet up with you i'll be a bona fide omnivore again....:D

eh hem kathy INSISTED that these little meat things we were eating weren't meat..... :(....and um sis, i didn't get sick right away like i usually would --- those enzyme-enabled meat innoculations on the swift jet to and from palestine must have taken...at least to slow things down --- i got sick YESTERDAY...  :'(

he heee but um it's ok.  i don't care, and you ARE completely forgiven sis..  (that mujaahid though, um gotta watch out for him.... ;) )
