Dumb or Decieving?

Salaam,....What would the Prophet (pbuh) do if he was brought up with a
situation regarding how to treat a person that seemed dumb yet decietful? To clarify, I know
this person who if you give a naseeha to in a nice manner it goes in one ear and out the
other and always gives the dumb act. If you yell at this person in a rude manner, it
sticks!? Strange I know and it doesn't seem like the islamic way of getting through to someone.
At the same time this person responds to certain questions in an intelligent manner,
which leads me to believe it's all a "dumb act/ decieving". How does one get to a person like
that? I hope I'm not being too confusing.

hmm ever heard of mad geniuses? or self destructive people ?

intelligence and wisdom are not necessarily linked

sometimes you just have to learn to put up with peoples foibles

I mean i have this friend who's a great person except he comes up
with the most fantastic stories...just sort of roll my eyes  ::) and ignore it !

“Intelligence and wisdom are not necessarily linked.”

You’re absolutely right there muqaddar.  An intelligent person understands information, a wise person uses it.  The mark of the foolish one is thinking he is wise, and therefore needs listen to no one - that is, sincere naseeha goes, as it were, 'in one ear and out of the other'.  A sad state of affairs, for, as Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA) said:

"Whoever gives up saying 'I do not know' meets destruction."

Sometimes gentle persuasions and arguments work, sometimes they are a waste of time.  Consider the following:

Question:
"What if people will not listen to gentleness?"

Answer:
"Then we must talk to them in their own language.  But only if it is necessary.  If we can avoid it, it is still better...But if we cannot manage, only in that case, we can learn that language.  There is no objection in learning a language, is there?"

---Inayat Khan

I don’t know the ins and outs of your situation – I’m just putting a series of thoughts on the board for you to absorb rather in the manner that a host places an assortment of dishes before his guest - choose which are most palatable and appropriate to yourself, and may Allah guide you.

wasalaam,

I sense a mis-communication problem....

1stly try being clearer on what message you are trying to get through.
2ndly if it doesn't work then try sharing a hadith on the issue at hand, it works with more subtlety.
3rdly Make sure that you let the person know that you dissaprove of them not taking your advice on board.
4thly Patience is a virtue and it does pay off even if you think that shouting at the person may be the only answer.
5thly Are you sure that you have communicated your thoughts clearly explaining yourself adequately ???

When you tell someone a hadith they usually remember it later and reflect on what the speaker was trying to tell them.

just my two cents, hope it helps.
