i'm new here but unfortunatly i'm starting with a serious problem  :'(
i can't know what kind of human am i !!  ???
i mean that sometimes i have true faith in ALLAH (subhanah wa taala) ,
and obeying him with a heart full of happiness & satisfaction ...etc.
(like any true muslim) , but  that usually ends up when i take a true            forward step into satisfaying my lord !!
i become completely the opposite & start thinking nasty thoughts about my religion & even my lord !! altough i try 2 fight that with all i can do , but i sometimes fail & get affected by these nasty evil thoughts , i get very rude & ungrateful to ALLAH (even during doing my prayers!!) , i'm much suffering with that but i can't stop it !!  :(
i don' wanna be like "el monafikon" who were Precisely described in the holly-QURAAN (8-20  el bakara , & so many other ayat) , but i c myself exactly like them many times...
but thank god i'm still feeling guilty about that , i'm still having a bit of feelings...
if any 1 could tell me what 2 do i'd be much grateful..
but pls don't write replies of insult as i already get enough from myself...
may ALLAH never let u down....
thanks 4 having patience 2 read my letter !

Walikum Aslam wa RhamtuAllah,

Welcome to the board :)

I think we all go through our ups and downs for some people its worse than others. But trust me everyone goes through them. When I read your post the famous hadith came to my mind that how shaitan attacks us for our front, behind, left and right and how basically he puts waswasa( whispers) in our hearts  ( i am paraphrasing the hadith, inshaAllah will post the source). But one of the ways to fight shaitan is remembering Allah(swt) constantly, dhikr, reading Qur'an and most importanly surrounding yourself with people of taqwa.. and insha'Allah being on this board will help you out as well.
Also, being in the state of wu'du helps out a lot.
May Allah(swt) forgive my shortcomings and give you tons of patience and himah through your tribulations.
JazakumAllahu Khair
your :-) in Islam :)

I agree with the above comment , we all have ups and downs
especially when some muslim or muslimah does bad stuff to us

I wouldn't say that makes you a munaafiq , because a munaafiq
would be one who says he believes so he can gain some profit

Whereas only a lunatic would say that saying your a muslim benefits
you in the duniya nowadays !

New to the game so to speak, but my understanding is that Allah loved us and gave us limited free will.  In order to do this he breathed into 99% of us his love and the other 1% is shayton.  All your doing is being human.  Hearing the 1% that Allah put into us and even feeling it pass through us is excacly what Allah wanted, so that you may choose Him, the most High.  Sounds to me like choosing him is what your doing.  As you get older (and I don't know your age) you become more accustom to the human frailty in us all and it's not so striking.  Hang in there, your doing fine.  Salaam.

I don't know about those percentages ;) but i think i'd be worried if you never have those feelings. even the greatest of the prophet's companions would run to him over every small thing accusing themselves of being hypocrites.

I know a friend of mine who was going thru the same kind of thing. He was diagonsed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and had to go onto Prozac to cure him.  This may (Allah forbid) be your problem, in which case I would consult a muslim doctor, neroulogist or psychiatrist.

Did the Prozac really cure him? Or did he just improve? My husband has this disorder and he's taking anafranil.. He's not cured, but improving a lot. Do you think Prozac could help my husband???

He says that Prozac "gave him his life back". He was suffering from what he describes as "evil thoughts" about Allah, which were constantly in his mind.  The more he thought about Allah, the more these "evil thoughts" would come.  He says that Prozac has made a huge improvement, so at least he can get on with his life.

sis fatimah and bro hamayoun,

(with my apologies for um extending the tangent....eek!)

anafranil is the standard treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder.   something more recently being prescribed is xanax, which is not a good thing to prescribe long term, since it's a minor tranquilizer (like valium) and can be addictive, but seems to be effective for less serious symptoms of this type.  (the major tranquilizers do not have addictive properties,  he he just side effects that are really bad all on their own...)

prozac is kind of being prescribed for a LOT of things now - not to say it isn't helping your friend, bro hamayoun, but i'd be cautious of saying its general use is everything you hear it being used for now.  unfortunately the reason is that this new family of antidepressants (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors or SSRs) promised big big BIG bucks forever for the pharmaceutical companies, and the big bucks only lasted a few years, until they found out just how mild these things were and how generally ineffective they are for any but the mildest depressions.

however, depression has lots of components, some of which are related to what get called "anxiety disorders", and can include obsessive thoughts or actions, as well as developing "evil" beliefs - those 5 drowned children are a prime example of an outcome resulting from untreated or inadequately treated major depression.

so wow hey if its bucks you want and you don't care how you get them, just that you Do get them, you can start new promotional campaigns to market anything, including psychotropic medications.

and one other word of caution, sis fatimah.  those three "breakthrough" SSRs - prozac, paxil, and zoloft - are each different, and each can have a different effect on an individual.  a special caution about prozac is that in a person with deep underlying anxiety it can severely agitate by relieving the depression "masking" the anxiety, and has been implicated in not only large numbers of suicides, but also a number of homicides, unlike most other antidepressants, except perhaps for other potentially agitating ones such as wellbutrin and effexor.

i recommend that you use caution, always, with medicines, and especially with the ones that are designed to mess stuff up along the neural transmitter pathways.  it is EXTREMELY important to observe your loved one for ALL changes which occur, and not to wait too long if the change seems bad - for really bad reactions, such as extreme anger or even rage, STOP the drug first, then call the doctor.  don't call the doctor and ask what to do, TELL the doctor what you saw and how unacceptable it was.  a doctor should warn of these possibilities anyway, but too many doctors base their prescribing habits on which pharmaceutical salesperson had the best deal that week, or had the smoothest and most convincing sales pitch.

just be very careful......

Thanks Mwishka. I've talked to my friend about the "bad publicity" of Prozac, and he says that until you've been thru what he's been thru, and then see the difference that Prozac has made, you cannot understand the situation.  I'm not saying that Prozac is the cure for everything, but it worked great for him with little side effects, so I don't think we should just condemn it because drug companies are making money out of it.  After all the "anti Prozac" brigade are also making money, for example by writing best selling books about the "bad" effects of Prozac!
