U.S. laws do not apply to Muslims?

One of my classmates was detained by the FBI for 8 days for questioning about any ties or information about the Al-Qaida.  The police pulled him over for no obvious reason and arrested him right there. A friend was in the car and the only explanation they got was he was not being arrested, but being taken in for questioning.  He was not allowed to call a lawyer until the 4th day.  They finally had to release him because they really had no reason for detaining him.  When we would call to find out about him, we were given no information because we are not his family, them knowing very well all of his family lives in Saudi Arabia.   I am losing more and more  hope in this country of mine...
