[slm]  ;-) &  :-)

i was just wondering if any of the ;-) &  :-) in this board have had the opportunity to perform umrah in the month of Ramadhan? i have always wanted to and still praying hard and making doa that i'll have the chance to do it too ...

i've heard from someone that it was very challenging indeed to be in the Holy city during this period as it seems that the crowd is even more 'intensified'(especially the last 10 days) than the hajj season :o. Is this true ??? ...

It will also be nice if those who had performed umrah in Ramadhan be able to share their experiences and maybe give some tips on  how to prepare one self for the umrah ...  thanks a lot .

[wlm]  :-)

I've performed the Umrah a few times during Ramadhan, Alhamdulillah.

The crowd certainly is enormous, especially during the last 10 days, its been known to touch 3 million :o. Sometimes people do not have space to do the sajdah & even ruku'u, they have to stand throughout the prayer.

And if you have little kids, make sure you take bottled water with you, coz you are'nt going to find water cans anywhere until its time 4 maghrib (my parents had a serious problem with this when i was little).

For iftaar - dates, yoghurt & khubz (Arabic bread) is distributed. Its really a pleasure to break your fast in the Haram with brothers & sisters from all over the world.

Then u can pray Taraweeh & Tahajjud (Qiyam Ul'Layl) in Jama'ah.

Although the Haram is pretty suffocatingly crowded during Ramadan, its gives you a pleasure like no other Umrah, besides the obvious Rewards.

Subhan Allah.

There are no words to describe the feeling of an Umrah during the month of Ramadan.

You know there are "Barakahs" of two types.  Barakah of place, and Barakah of time.  And when you have both, you don't have time to capture everything.  You don't have time to speak, time to eat, time to sleep...all you want to do is 'Ibadah.

And like Safa mentioned, there isn't even any space to do Sujood.  If you get the chance, you should definitely go.  It's an experience that I will not describe because I cannot adequately do it justice.

Oh and don't get me started on visiting Madinah during the month of Ramadan!!  Everyone knows that the people of Madinah are so welcoming and hospitable...try witnessing that during the month of Ramadan.

...and the longing to return continues...

Wassalaam.

Alhamdullilah I have been fortunate to do an umrah in Ramdahan ,
Subhaan Allah the exprience is sublimal even though when I did it the  heat was oppressive (summer Ramadhan)
We would usually say our zuhr prayers put on our Ihraams and then drive to Makkah which was one hour away, My mom would pack dinner , and we would park right in front of the haram in a tunnel opposite Bab Abdl Azeez
We would enter and I think offer two rakhas tahiyatul masjid and do our twaaf by the time it would be asar and we would sit down make duaa till magrib pray magrib and head back to the car 4 hungry kids would gorge on moms dinner :) Mean while I would be trying to collect the feesabililah goodies that were distributed   ;) inspite of the gentle admonitions of my father who would say that is meant for the poor and needy
We would come back for Isha and then would be transported heaven reading taravih behind Shk Ali bin Jabir
then complete the rest of the umrah pray fajar and leave
well a few tips
Yes it is crowded in Ramadhan esp the last few days so the best time to do umrah is 2-4 hours after fajar when people who are up the whole night are resting and not many new people arrive
If you have a chance kiss the hajre aswad but if there is a crowd do not put your life in peril
Spend most of your time in the Haram so carry a few essentials that are allowed
If you do not have hungry kids like us ;) then keep the food to a minimal
do a lot of dua
well since it isnt winter time Inshallah it will be plesant
Hope you make it this time Inshallah
Please pray for me

Masha'Allah ... thank you so much for all the replies  :-)

jannah - your webpage on the umrah & hajj is just too wonderful! Masha'Allah ... and the pics are beautiful. (did you actually take it ???)

safa - you are sure one "lucky" soul my dear! thanks for the tips ...
You know there are "Barakahs" of two types.  Barakah of place, and Barakah of time.
theOriginal - i've done umrah before, Alhamdulillah, but not in the month of Ramadhan ... your quote above really heightened my desire to perform umrah in Ramadhan - to get the barakah of time ...

siddiqui - it must have been tough on you (with the fasting & the heat of summer then) but i'm sure it was good right? ... from your explanation, it seems that your family & you actually went there on your own? ... from where i came from, we usually have to go with a travel agency package and they would usually have all our meals taken care of...
Mean while I would be trying to collect the feesabililah goodies that were distributed
hmmm... that sounds interesting!  ;)

Please keep me in your prayers. May Allah grant us the opprtunity to perform umrah/hajj over&over ... Insya'Allah
