Sad Day in the Madina

Just wanted to write a few words...

I've just added some more announcements in the Dar Al Hikmah. It's really messed up that these things all coincided. It's been a very troubling and difficult week. I hope everyone realizes that this was never our intention. Change is very difficult especially for me, but the board and the people on it keep changing and it's hard to keep everything together.

I am also leaving for India this weekend. I've hardly even packed trying to deal with all the stresses and everything this week. But I really have alot of hope that the message board will change again. This time to something, maybe different, but better and more like what we all wanted this board to be inshaAllah.

This year has been a great year for travel (at least for me). I'm really hoping to keep that journal this time and share it with everyone. I had intended to do that for Syria but.. errmm... long story. I think arshad will keep bothering me about it until I actually *make up* an account :)

Please keep me in your duas, forgive me for my mistakes. I'm only human, most of me anyway j/k....;)

have a [] on me.. and have a good vacation ...

.. and do your hw!!

Insha Allah we can all see this as something positive and not something sad. It is a great opportunity for us all to review our own thoughts, feelings and intentions.
As great as the Madinat-al-Muslimeen message board is, it is not, and never can be, real life.
We need to try to create the contacts and friendships that we crave, among Muslims within our own physical community. At the moment while I am still sick, I realise how alone I am. I know that if I were living within a reasonable distance of Kathy, Barr, Jannah, Marcie, MF or any of the wonderful sisters that I have come to know on this board, they would have come to visit me, to see if I am better, to help me, to cheer me up. But I have to face it. These are just virtual friendships, which when it comes to it, count for almost nothing.
Islam is built on Ummah. And that Ummah is not to be found when you turn on your computer. That Ummah is in the people you know, your neighbours, your friends and your family. And without Ummah, we are nothing.

I think the most important thing for all of us to whom this applies, is to use the Madina vacation as an opportunity to get out there and make some real friends, and to stop the unhealthy obsession for once and for all.

May Allah bless you all :)

Have a good vacation!!

It really was sad to read some unexpected announcements on this closing day.

I can understand the mental conflict involved in such issues.

May Allah reward your sincere intentions.

Cent per cent justice is not possible in this world. Some harsh measures may be necessary to keep the things going.

Allah knows best.

Have a nice travel  :)

I just wanted to say I agree with what has been said. It is an opportunity to get to know ppl from all over the world and discuss Islam...but it can be unhealthy if u let it.
Its really nice to know that ur actually looking out for us. Most boards don't have the same approach.

Hope every1 has a good Madina-free holiday  :-* and that we all make use of a new-found spare time, inshaAllah.

Just going to jot down all those recipes that i've been meaning to try out  ;D

Take care

"As Madina curls into its cocoon,
May it unfold, flourish and bloom,
Delicate, sweet
Resplendent like the moon...
Nurture our depths,
ideals,
transcend words to rise
like the sun
Let's meet again at the
height of noon...
Shine our lights, dispel
horizon's gloom,
Let's meet again at the
height of noon,
to reflect upon our journey's
oh wayfarers
sincere
and
true."

Okay I know it's corny but I couldn't resist ;D ;D
I am really sad to hear about all the not so positive ongoings too. Although I haven't been posting much, it's a nice feeling to know all is good :( Mashaallah I have deep respect for all those who were involved in making these tough decisions with the dedication to make it better. Inshaallah this time will be awesome for everyone, let's keep eachother in our duahs.
Jannah don't be stressed...here's a  [] for some caffeine to keep ya packin' :) Enjoy your trip, please tell us about it, and jus stay  8)
Inshaallah everything will work out for the best :) There are too many beautiful souls here for Madina's fertile lands, soon we'll be like gardens in full springtime bloom :-* :-* :-*
I will keep you all in my duahs :)

Upon reading all those posts in the Dar al Hikmah, I was truly saddened.  I then reread the constitution, which I had merely glanced over when I joined.  It's rather scary, but what's scarier is that you guys actually enforce it.  lol.

Anyway Jannah...enjoy your trip.  <Grudgingly...> I'm going to find something useful to do with my time (insha Allah), because I realized how much time I've started spending here.

If nothing else, then this: I'll miss the connection.
It is important to understand that this board is not Islam, it is not the last word, it is not the khilafah, nor is it the free Islamic press. It is just a message board with rules and principles guiding it's progress and interaction.
I pray that the vision succeeds.  Remember me in your prayers.

Wasalaam.
Kathy, Barr, Jannah, Marcie, MF or any of the wonderful sisters that I have come to know on this board, they would have come to visit me, to see if I am better, to help me, to cheer me up. But I have to face it. These are just virtual friendships, which when it comes to it, count for almost nothing.
:'( :'( But you all mean something to me..and a great deal. I was thinking about the wonderful Muslims I have met on this board and indeed feel a bond with many.

I was thinking about it and realized it is very hard to foster relationships in your own community.
For example:
Sis Barr walks in the masjid
Sis Kathy walks in
S.Barr- as salaamu alaykum
s. Kathy- wa alaykum as salaam
s. Barr -How are you, insha Allah/
s.Kathy- Al- Humdullillah, and you?
s. Barr- How is Ali and Shaheen?
s. Kathy- Good, today Ali....
s. Eleanor comes in gives salaams
meanwhile se7en comes in telling us the lecture is about to start....

So, as you can see, we never really get to know each other. But here at madina, we write when we have a chance, we get to share tidbits of our live, and try to help each other with problems that we really are too aprehensive to share with those in our community.

I look forward to the break, but will eagerly lookk forward to all the events and happenings while away!

May Allah swt guide all of you.

Assalmau alaikum,
I just wanted to say before we all disappear that I love you all for the sake of Allah... May Allah let us all meet in the REAL JANNAH since some of us would like so much to meet each other for real :)
I think this is a really good idea. I personally feel the need once in a while to step back from this virtual ummah (though I know you all are real people with real personalities) and focus on my own life and surroundings more :)
Al hamdu lillah.
May Allah forgive us all for our lapses and mistakes.
salaam

Salaams to all,

I must say Jannah I think your decision is wise and I hope yields barakah. I know it must have been hard for you and the others.
Sadly, we all get addicted to the board I myself have in the past and it is quite addictive. It is sad to hear about the members of the board but that is now an offline topic.
Change is very difficult especially for me, but the board and the people on it keep changing and it's hard to keep everything together
You haven't read 'Who moved my Cheese' have yah, its quite good and gives adivce on you guessed it Change!

On your journey to India please remember us and make dua for all the Ummah.

It would be nice to have a stronger focus on the board, something that produces more results or action.... I don't know its something I've always wanted to see.
These are just virtual friendships, which when it comes to it, count for almost nothing.
Hey don't be soo hard on yourself, I've met a few of yas and heard others on the phone, virtual it may be but I'm sure I'm talking to a real person at the other end of the line.

Anyway, likewise if I've upset anyone then I ask you to forgive me.  Who knows when I'm going to die and above all I can't bear to have grudges with anyone, lifes tooo short.

I love you all and may Allah love you as well. Pray for the ummah as we pray for each other.

salaams

Assalamu'alaikum :-)
These are just virtual friendships, which when it comes to it, count for almost nothing.
:'( :'( :'(

Aww, Eleanor... I'm sure we have more than virtual friendships. What we have is ukhuwah. Sure, our ukhuwah may not be tested yet to increase its strength, but didn't we strive to meet and leave each other for the sake of Allah?

And hadn't Allah promised His shade to those who meet and leave because of Him?

If Allah has promised such... is then, the value of the ukhuwah felt in our hearts... a mere count to almost nothing...  :'(

OK, I won't get emotional :) But you know I love you :-)
...and do your hw!!
I think we should all take stock of what we've done and why we r here... and perhaps, see what is our role at this board.

I remembered when I first came to the board (well, it was the old board at that time), I was glad and amazed at the amount of civilised and Islamic behavoiur that is seldom found in message boards. People give nasihah with love, people say things hoping that it would be of benefit.. we learn Islam and each other in a peaceful and fun environment.. a good balance of many things.... Many are not concerned about winning the argument... but its about winning the heart.

I'm reminding myself, first and foremost... that wherever we are let us be an asset to the ummah, whether in the virtual world or in the real one. We may just be members, but what is our role to make this board a better place for everyone to get closer to Al Haq (The Truth)?

The board won't be successful if there's just Jannah around... (she'll prolly be talking to walls.. but hey.. they do have ears ;) OK, corny :P) But it'll only be successful when we have each other, and each other builds and strengthens the board with sincerity and wisdom that Allah has placed in our hearts. And this extends to all, even the non-Muslims. We have so much to learn from one another...

Take care, everyone
wassalam

Here's a bit of trivia, who can remember when the board last closed? ???  Its been a while since I have been on a vacation, now I can spend time like updating my website and get some more articles to send around to my list, catch up on some reading and order some books online.
