What did you get up to?

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

I spent some of our time away re reading The Purification of the Soul.

I also got this new virtual pet game on our mobile phone. I had heard about these games but had never seen one until recently.

I'll offer a Bebzi if anyone can follow how the heck I managed to make a link between the two ;-)

[Warning: My mind works in mysterious ways ;-)]

So spill? What did you get up to whilst we were away? ;-)

I think Br Khalid was down by the river reading his purification of the soul book and then his phone blippped saying it was hungry  ;D

attia it was a MNN (Madina News Network) article. You can read it here: ttp://www.jannah.org/cgi-bin/madina/YaBB.pl?board=madinahq;action=display;num=1031972869

Assalamu Alaikum,

I went ahead and made my own web site: Have a gander at
<a href="http://uzer.fusionrays.com.">MeAndMyself</a>
.

I also finished the book version of A Beautiful Mind and a Universe in a nutshell and read more articles off the web plus some of those mini-Islam books... cool huh?

Anyway, BrKhalid I think you got the virtual pet to give da'wah to or something ... you know... Pet:"BRO I'M HUNGRY!!", "Please, Allah is with the patient..."

Whatever

Wassalamu Alaikum,
Uzer

I started attending a fiqh and aqeedah class at this masjid that is like one hour away from me, but it's worth it.  I've learned so much in such a short period of time.  We are now starting the book "Minhaj al-Muslim" by Shaykh Abu Bakr al-Jazairi.  My teacher studied at Madina Univ. under Shaykh al-Albaani (r)

I read some books like "The Bible, The Qur'an, and Science" by Maurice Bucaille, "Muslim Unity in Light of the Numerous Groups and Parties" by Shaykh Ali ibn Hasan, "Diseases of the Hearts and their Cures" by Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, and currently reading "The Right Way" also by Ibn Taymiyyah.   Yes, I am a proud book-reading nerd  ;-)

And then of course working.  Work sucks.  (alhamdulilah that I have a job, but it gets on my nerves often).

Believe it or not, I had long since planned to be in the States visiting family and friends.  Actually, we left Aug 6th, and came back Sept. 10th and I had recovered from jet-lag just in time to start back in.  Since I knew I wouldn't have the time to keep up with the board while I was away, it was so kind of you to go on vacation while I was gone, so that I wouldn't have to worry about missing much!   ;D  Much appreciated!

But in any case, my time was filled with catching up with friends we only get to see once a year and with letting Grandma and Grandpa get their fill (though I sure that isn't really possible  :)) of their youngest granddaughter, whom they only get to see twice a year or so.  All in all, it was very refreshing.

Peace,
Dawn

I started attending aqeedah and tajwyd class. The aqeedah class has been good because we learn from each other and have been able to dispel lots of incorrect information (among the new shahadahs and some of the old too) alhamdullilah.

In the tajwyd class  ??? I am demonstrating that there is a window of opportunity for learning new languages ???.  My age puts me well past it, but alhamdullilah He has made it "easy on my tongue and firm in my heart"!  We are re-learning the last juz using the rules of tajwyd. Please make du'a for me  :'(  it is difficult at times.

I did some visiting, reading, swimming, and "hanging out" with my 9 year old daughter and completely enjoyed her company and the end of the summer. She and her "crew" of young Muslimahs were very gracious to let me join them. They are inspiring, smart, and full of joy in their Islam. They have all gone back to school now, but we still see each other at weekend Madrassah.

Well, time for another  []

I can sympathise with this…..my waistline is just about recovering!!! ;-)

Anyway enough of Briyani and getting back to this virtual pet game……..

For those of you who don't know, you get to look after a pet [a cat in my case] and are responsible for looking after it. Hence you have to feed it, wash it, take it to the vet etc etc. There's a nice status report page you can go to which shows you how well your pet is doing. It shows you how hungry/clean/sick etc etc your pet is and you take action accordingly. Obviously if you doing nothing it dies on you!!!

A righteous man once said,

"How odd, that some people mourn for the one whose body has died, but never mourn for the one whose heart has died - and yet the death of the heart is far more serious!"

Thus acts of obedience are indispensable to the well being of the heart. It is worthwhile mentioning the following acts of obedience here, since they are very necessary and essential for the servant's heart:

Dhikr of Allah ta'Ala, recitation of the Noble Qur'an, seeking Allah's forgiveness, making du'as, invoking blessings and peace on the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and praying at night.
[The Purification of the Soul]

Reading the above I thought wouldn't it be great if we could get one of these games which could monitor our hearts instead of a pet. Then we could know when to "feed" our hearts with the above acts when we were running "low".

Like I said strange, but the first thing that came into my mind upon reading the above passage was this game!! ;-)
For those of you who don't know, you get to look after a pet [a cat in my case] and are responsible for looking after it.
Hmm, this sounds suspiciously familiar to the Tamagochi craze back in the late 1990s.

Akhi.... this does seem a bit outdated? You been too long by the river, 'ol man? ;)
Reading the above I thought wouldn't it be great if we could get one of these games which could monitor our hearts
U know, that would be a brilliant idea, mashaALlah.

It reminds  me of a reminder that a sister gave me (while the Madina was on holiday :)).

O ye who believe! Fear God, and let every soul look to what (provision) He has sent forth for the morrow. Yea, fear God: for God is well-acquainted with (all) that ye do. SUrah Al Hashr 58:18

She says that it takes a person of iman... the one who believes to look at his/her own souls... and if we are void of it... then, we wouldn't feel the need to be retrospective, the need to look at our hearts.

Allahua'lam :-)

I am listening to sh. hamza yusuf's tapes on purification of the heart, haven't gotten far yet...and reading Road To Mecca finally, which i'm absolutely addicted to right now:):):)

Well now!  It's good to be back.

I spent the last bits of the summer in a daze.  The funniest thing happened.  My uncle, who passed away earlier this summer, left behind a barbeque.  (Okay okay, I won't make this a most trivial matter, this is very serious!)

With all due respect to him, I restart my story: He used to live in a very well-to-do neighborhood, and after he passed away, his wife moved to Florida, to be with her older son, and grandkids.  Anyway, since she had left in a hurry, their house was pretty much left as is, and I took up the responsibility of mowing the lawn, checking mail, voicemail, making sure everything was okay.

Remember how I said I was off to fight a war (blindfolded, with one arm tied behind my back, using a power stream hose, to get rid of those scary *army* ants in his lawn?  Well, that didn't happen, I felt sorry for them, and then they multiplied, so I just left them.  Okay okay, I'll be honest, I was petrified of those things.)   ?  Anyway, as it turns out, they had left their huge barbeque in the back with a sign on it that said "NOT FOR FLORIDA."

ha ha. The barbeque got stolen.  lol!  The funny thing was, everything else was left as is.  And then my cousin arrived from Detroit, decided to stay in their house, and when he found the bbq missing....he reported it to the police.  Now cops, see, can be seriously STOOPID.  So they arrived at my door, demanding my whereabouts, and a list of questions "well you were the last one there."

It was actually very funny, but only after I quit being scared.

I didn't solve the problem of World Hunger or World Peace.  (I know, it's obvious isn't it?)  But I did read a few REALLY good books.  And and!  I learned how to cook a few things!!!  Can you believe it?  Yayyyy!!!! I didn't think I could do it.  I'm still terrified of raw chickens, but whoopdeedoo!  I can handle other meats now :)

Other than that?  It's back to school, back to my two part-times, back to the 2 hour-daily commute, and back endless, tiring debates on everything from ice cream to politics.  (University, what can you expect.)

On the brighter side....the month of Ramadan is coming up soon.  And we should all make an effort, insha Allah, to get a headstart on on preparing for this blessed month.

It's good to be back....

Wassalaam.

I didnt know we are supposed to do something different in summer???
Anyways, I had pretty much the same routine like the rest of the year. Took two summer classes namely Tech. CommI and Calc III alongwith with working 12 hr shifts at work  8) But Alhamdulillah it worked out pretty well. And at the end of the semester, I went to see my family in Chicago and ate more in 2 weeks then i would normally eat in 2 months. :( That was alot of good, halal, zabiha food though, Alhamdulillah, since we dont get zabiha meat where I live at.

And thats pretty much it.

Assalamu Alaikum,

It's good to have the board back up and running, although I must admit I didn't know it was down until the week before it opened.  ;D

The new features are so cool, especially the membermap and bro/sis icons.

Well, my summer break went by very quickly. All I did was sit back, relax and enjoy married life and my kids.   :D

I hope everyone has enjoyed thier summer and i also cant wait for Ramadan to start.   :D

I miss you guys!  :-* I wish I would have known when the site first came back up. Masha ALLAH, there is a lot of info on here already!  :D
Well, I was to marry, but we did not work out. I am not sad; ALLAH (SWT) is the Best Knower.
In the meantime I have been studying at school, and trying to be active with my clubs and activities. I am on student government, the Graphic Design Club, and in the Sierra Club.  8)
I have also had my Deen challenged many times; I am learning a lot about Fitrah.
I look forward to corresponding with you all soon!

Wow, I have so much to read and catch up on.

Things here are busy-busy-busy. My mother in law is here from Kuwait, my husband started school, and I'm busy running around the house doing everything. We got our bathtub fixed, now we are fixing some other things around here. Tomorrow the man is coming to paint the backroom and put in a new toilet. (our main bathroom toilet doesn't flush very well) Ahhh, I need to do about 15 things at once.  :(
We just got back from Cairo. I had a great time there with my husband's family. I love them so much.
I received sad news yesterday. My close friend passed away last week, which I am taking kinda hard.. May Allah have mercy on her and forgive her and us.
I love all the new features and can't wait for the new smileys :) Hope you are all well and in the best of Iman.  8)
Anyways, It's so good to be back!  :-)
