I had been looking for some beauty products which did not contain any animal derived ingredients .......since I had heard that we should avoid products with pork etc. in them....anyways while surfing the net during these holidays I found a very nice product range which is 100% vegetable based that I'd like to share with everyone.
    http://www.avalonnaturalproducts.com/main/product-l2-AVL.asp?BrandID=21&categoryid=13

I was also looking for some good baby products ,since I did not want to buy johnson & johnson's and I found this
   http://www.ashleysgarden.com/baby_bee/

It would be really nice if anyone can recommend any other similar items .....
                                                JazakAllah  :-*

I've heard that people back home (India and Pakistan) use raw eggs for shampoo, and that its supposed to be effective.

hahaha too funny.  lol... just to clarify, don't use eggs as shampoo, it'll gel your hair in place, more firmly than superglue, until the next time you wash it.  But it makes a good pre-conditioner :P

Thanks for the sites :)

This is a nice topic masha'Allah :) Personally I think my understanding is we can use any products even if they have animal ingredients. However, i strongly believe we should be using the other products because for one thing, the animal testing torture doesn't sound right to me. THen the whole issue of the added chemicals and the way i see so many people with mental problesm accelating nowadays (ADD,etc) I believe it must have something to do with the diets of additives preservatives, and extra chemcal smells and touching us constantly moving away from nature.

Also, considering the environmental crisis of the world, Muslims should probably be taking a more pro-active role in going vegatarian or vegan with food and products. But that is my personal opinion. I think my husband has improved this aspect alot but I don't know if he can wihtout meats.

Hmmm, probably not, because of the smell, and that it would probably make my head sticky as the Original has pointed out.  For some reason I thought some of you had posted using raw eggs as shampoo in an earlier thread? ???

But its interesting to note that all these products out there, soaps, toothpaste, shampoos and whatever other stuff people use, have all these chemicals in them.  Whatever happened to natural products? ???

I've plundered my Body Shop book for some home recipes to try on your face altho' for some reason they make me feel hungry!

1.  cut a piece of cheesecloth or muslin to fit the face cutting a hole for mouth, nose and eyes.  immerse in warm oil for normal skin, honey for dry skin or milk for oily skin.   place mask over face for 10-20 mins then peel off.  wipe skin clean.  voila lovely skin!

2.  get rid of puffy eyes with slices of cucumber placed over eyes or perhaps some raw peeling potato slices or lukewarm camomile teabags.

3.  make a face mask using mashed peaches, bananas or grate apples with honey cream or yoghurt.  rinse of with cool water.   Or you could just eat it  ;)

Word on the whole shampoo, soap chemical deal.  shampoos can be full of all sorts of bad chemicals which can be hidden under the banner 'parfum'.   they use industrial type chemicals for it and can give you headaches and stuff.   that's what I've found anyway.  In UK, there's a company called Lush who do more organic stuff like shampoos, soaps and deodorants.

A wonderful site with lots of all natural hair, face, and aromatherapy products is www.carolsdaughter.com.  You can shop right online.  She also has a store in Brooklyn for those of you in that area.
These products are really quality without any of the chemical stuff.

Enjoy.

why waist money people? mix 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1/4 cup of milk, 2 whole eggs, and 2-3 tablespoons honey. the olive oil and honey are optional but keep milk and eggs in at all times. Honey acts well for cleansing and sticking to dirt. Milk is a very light cleanser but is an awesome thing to use.   Egg clings to dirt and sticky oils in hair. Or mix baking soda, honey, milk together and use every two weeks. very heavy and great for everyday use in thick curly hair

eggs aren't sticky. and they won't make you hair stink. have you heard about mayonaise in you hair? thats even smellier. but believe me eggs only react to heat and you could have srambled eggs for you hair-feast!
and right when you put them in your hair you'll be mrs/mr. hairy! just kidding it has lots of protein that is exellcent for you hair. and not only in pakistan/india, but even arabia and ameria. eggs are known for silky clean hair.

dandruff is often the result of a pH imbalance on teh skin, which shampoo makes worse. try this solution: wash with soap and then leave some vinegar in your hair for 30-60 seconds. Most dermatologist and pharmasict know this simple secret, they just don't tell so they can make money by turning dandruf into some complex disease for Head & shoulders only to solve.

this is just plain correct but vinegar often smells awful, how could you remove this smell without reshampooing

Amber,

Many Muslimahs also do not like alcohol and alcohol bases in their products.

Is your product free of this also?

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I checked into the alcohol issue.  I was told that there are over 400 kinds of alcohol.
Most of the products do not contain alcohol ingredients.  The ones that do contain a
minimal amount of plant based alcohols which are not harmful to the skin. e.g. Cetyl alcohol,
Cetearyl alcohol.  It is not a main ingredient in any of the products.  All of the
products list the ingredients on the container.  I also have a list of all ingredients.  So, if
someone has a question about a particular product, please go to my website and email me.
If someone would like, I can contact the company and get more details.  I can also ask a
sheikh about alcohol ingredients.  One of the reasons I joined the company was to help
other Muslims find quality products that are safe and beneficial.  I hope I can help you
with your needs.  Please feel free to contact me.  http://naturallyforyou.myarbonne.com and

Assalamu alaikum,

Thank you, Baraa.  The nice thing is, I work from home, I am my own boss, I choose to
work around women and I choose my hours.  The company does all of the research and
development and Independent Consultants just present the products.  You don't have to have any
previous knowledge at all.  The company provides all of the training you need and there is
so much support from the upline managers.  I love my work, alhamdulillah.  You could do
it, too if you would like.  Or even if you know someone who is interested in making some
extra money or finding a new job and making a lot of money, tell them about the website.
It's great work for Muslim women.

                Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

Assalamu alaikum,

I'm trying to join this website but it says no new registrants are being accepted right
now and to try again at the end of the month.  So, I'll just have to be "anonymous" for a
while. :-)  Anyway, I saw many people discussing women wearing makeup to weddings.  What
I have done is wear niqab just for that occasion until I am safely in the "all-women"
room.  It's nice to have if the husband is going to come in the room for a few minutes for
the ring or cake or something.  Then, I take it off again when it is just women.  I hope
that the weddings you attend keep the men and women in separate rooms.  Sometimes I wear
makeup and niqab if I am going to give a makeup presentation for my business.  A friend of
mine told me it is not good to keep taking the niqab on and off and that it is better to
wear sunglasses and then just put on your lipstick when you get there..and take it off
when you leave.  Get togethers with women are a fun time to get dressed up and put on
makeup if you want.  Just don't let any men see you.  Of course, getting dressed up for your
husband is nice, too.  I hope some of you get some good ideas from this.

                Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,
                Amber Branch

I found a cool article on how to make your own rose scented body lotion...  :-[it's pretty interesting..
[color=Navy]

Rose-growing season may have passed, but with a pleasantly scented all-natural lotion, you can replicate the smell of a rose garden all year long. Use this lotion daily for delicately perfumed, silky-smooth skin. It’s lightweight and not too greasy, so it’s suitable for most skin types.

Rose-scented lotion
1/4 cup sweet almond oil
1/4 cup rosewater (see recipe below)
1 tbsp grated beeswax
4 drops vitamin E oil

1. Over a double-boiler, combine the almond oil and grated beeswax. With water simmering, gently stir until beeswax has melted (about eight minutes).
2. Take mixture off of heat, and slowly pour in rosewater, stirring constantly.
3. Let the lotion mixture cool completely, stirring occasionally.
4. Add the vitamin E oil and stir to combine.
5. Spoon out the lotion into a clean container and seal.

Rosewater recipe
Fill a one-litre Mason jar 3/4 full with fresh rose petals. Add a few tablespoons of vodka, and then fill the container with water. Use a wooden spoon to stir well.

Let your rosewater steep for at least a few days, or even up to two weeks for stronger rosewater. Strain and use in lotion or as a natural perfume.

Finding the supplies
• Sweet almond oil is available at select craft supply stores. You can also substitute another oil such as olive oil or canola oil.
• Rosewater is available in small containers in most drug stores and pharmacies.
• Beeswax is available in small bricks at most craft stores.
• Vitamin E oil acts as a preservative, and can be found in pharmacies in either liquid form or inside gelatin capsules.

This lotion makes an excellent gift. Use antique or unusual bottles or jars, and add a funky little gift tag with a single dried rose petal on it. Add to a gift basket, or give as a small gift alone.

Tsk tsk tsk.   ;)  Beeswax is not good for your skin because it seals your pores which doesn't allow moisture in.   It's particles are too large to absorb.  Also, it attracts dirt.

Assalamu'alaikum :-)

Me have a  question...

I'm using rosehip essential oil for some blemishes. Its a proven thing that it does help (well, that's wot they say!)

At first I can see differences. Now, don't seem to see any.. maybe its going slower and reaching a plateau.. I dunno...

So, the thing is...  would it be wiser for me to continue its use, coz, someone told me... the oil may cause white/black heads to grow  :'(  And it might just be!

wassalam  :-)
