Dragon Star?

Assalaamu Alaikum brothers and sisters

I hope that this finds you all in the best of Health, Taqwa and Eeman. Gosh, an odd thing
happened to me yesterday and i was wondering whether any of you could perhaps throw some
light on this. I am a teacher and one of my pupils in my form class came up to me and
gave me a prologue. She said that she had designed it for the classroom. It was very
chilling and spoke about these dragons that were terrorising the world. In it, it said that God
had made good so God had to make Evil. You can imagine what I was thinking!! ...the girl
is only 11 or so, but i thought it may be from the bible or something?? I am a new
teacher and don't know what the best thing to do is, but my thoguhts are to take it up with the
head of year.

If anyone knows a bit more about this i would be grateful for some feedback

Anonymous,

I'm not sure what exactly disturbed you about your student's prologue.  From what you've said so far, it sounds like you are reading some subtle references to the current global situation?

I'd suggest discussing the matter over with a colleague, ask them to read the prologue and see if they see what you have seen in the text.  And then maybe sit down and have a chat to the student.  Find out what the purpose and reasons are before you act on anything.  Its a very delicate situation and I guess you need to be very careful in the way you handle it because nothing has been stated explicitly.

I'd probably very carefully, gently and with great subtlety work on changing the views of the class and this particular student in the days, weeks and months to come.  Guide them to a more open state of mind, your influence and views are very powerful, students always take away a piece of you, no matter how small and seemingly insignificant.

Allahu Alam

Let us know how it goes.

I don't know much about this situation, but I can't remenber anything in the bible that specifically states that God created evil, that get blamed on the devil.  But logic is quite clear: if God creted the universe, he included evil in his creation.

I think that you could try to convince the Children that God created evil to tempt them, so they could make a fair choice between Good and Evil.

Just my two pennies

From what I understand in Islam we don't attribute Pure Evil as a creation of Allah. Evil is relative. Something that is good, can be used as evil...eg. Fire (to cook, or burn a house).
Even the shaytan is not Purely evil, since as Sh. Mukhtar explained it, he challenges man to rise to his full potential and that's an advantage i guess of having him around.
In the Quran, goodness is always attributed to Allah while evil is never explicitly attributed to Him.
Maybe someone else who is more well versed in this issue can add more. Just me two cents :)

As far as the studant goes, definitely talk to her first before taking it up with the head. Also start some sort of discussion with your students about the world etc. One of the sunday school teachers started a venting session with her class about world affairs, their personal lives, etc. and she was astounded at how deeply these kids were perceiving the world around them..the kids are between 10-12....don't be too shocked, we might be giving them less credit than what they deserve.

Inshaallah kheir.

Well, JK for all the advice. I understand that I am a role model, but to be honest I
don't really think of that much. Mostly I just act on impulse (may be good or bad thing!!) .
In my judgement I did not think that it was a good idea to go into details about the
world situation with my form class. The pupils are 11 year olds and though I do not doubt the
deepness of their thought, they are most likely to go home and explain everything to
their parents.

At the end of the day, I am at the school to teach my subject and take responsibility of
a form group i.e any problems that they may have in the school. I will not comment on
anything else unless asked to.

Allah swt is the creator of the heavens and the earth, the All Knower, and the Most Just.
Every human being has the ability to do what is right and to follow the truth. However
the more 'wrong' one does the more difficult it becomes to do what is right. 'Evil' is a
term given to actions that are done that show an absence of justice. There is a saying 'All
that is needed for Evil to prosper is for good people to do nothing'. Therefore, I would
say that Allah has created a guidance and criterion for what is right, what is good, and
what is just. If people CHOOSE not to act on this 'beautiful wisdom' then evil will
prosper automatically. It must be a complex cycle but I have no doubt that it is a just one.
Allah swt is not in need of us, it is us that are in need of Allah swt. (just some
thoughts..)
