Ok like I said I gave fair warning, DONT READ THIS IS YOU HAVENT SEEN THE MOVIE. Cause I want to talk about this movie.  Ok I'm not really into fantasy movies, but my wife asked me to rent this.  But I have a question for you guys.  I am the only one who felt jipped by the ending?  I spent over 3 hours watching this mess and it's TO BE CONTINUED?!? When I was 10,  I hated to be continue on a half hour episode of G.I. Joe.  If I saw this in the movie theatre I would have gotten my money back.    And don't try to give me this junk about a trilogy.   Each movie should be able to stand alone on it's own as a single story.  Like starwars or indiana jones.  Meaning what ever they set out to do in the first movie shouldn't be dragged out over 3 movies, that's RIDICULOUS!!! All I know is now, I won't be seeing the second movie until the third movie comes out.  I would have rather sat there for like 5 hours than get a TO BE CONTINUED.  Am I alone on this one?

Hello it's called a TRILOGY :) I think you might have heard about that before you went in .... ;)  I watched the movie on DVD after much harassment about missing 'it's greatness on the big screen'... and it is a beautifully filmed movie I have to say. (worth the 3 hours even though you don't get an ending :)) I think you don't realize the intricacy or appreciate the amount of work that went into the planning of the movie if you don't watch that 'director's special' thing on dvd. They talk about how they made up a whole new language and writing, how they developed all the different "races", how they spent a year growing tomatoes and flowers so the towns would look real.

Anyways anyone else get the feeling that the movie was like a metaphor of modern industrial materialistic life versus the natural traditional way of life? I thought it was kinda interesting..

As for the ending I thought there was no "closure" either.. the end is pretty abrupt.. it's like not a natural stopping point, although I understood it more after hearing the director talk about how the first movie is about everyone together on a path and the second one about people splitting up etc... I think they shoulda had some kind of closure at least... like at least in Star Wars it's kind of a good ending although you realize the real war is not over...

After much hoopla and broohahah about this I can't believe I saw this.  This has to be one of the most boring movies ever made.  You could have fallen asleep through the whole movie and awakened with a few minutes to go and you wouldn't have missed much.  The acting was subpar and the effects were average.  I'm definitely with you on this, I am not seeing episode 2 or 3.  *yawn*

Jannah, I dunno about "metaphor of modern industrial materialistic life versus the natural traditional way of life?"  But someone sent me an article asking is Bush the lord of the rings, "One ring to rule them all".  After seeing this movie I can some what see where they were going with this.  It's funny how movies sometimes have a peak into the future.  The same goes for Minority Report.  Minority Report was totally about big brother and all this security check we're doing today gone OVERBOARD!!!  Which seems to be the nearing future for us in the states.

Actually I was kinda happy with the ending.Yes, there wasn't  closure, but I'm getting used to that, so sometimes the lack of closure is part of the experience.

I was expecting it because I looked at the clock halfway through and thought 'there's no way they can end this in this time, they must be saving the rest of the story for the sequels'.

It kind of makes me look forward to the sequels, and i was happy the story wasn't ending, that I would have more to look forward to(that gives you some insight on how i spent my summer vacation, doesn't it)and could always hope that the things it lacks will be made up later.

The thing that got me is ... the Mr.Smith elf!

How did they pick this guy for this movie??? Were they just watching the Matrix and thinking'Oh, that'll do great in a tunic with pointy ears!"

Book bored me when I was younger, so I haven't tried it again.

The whole thing with the ring was interesting, I though it resembled an wedding band!

Overall, a pleasant way to kill 3 hrs.

I agree with sr jannah it was a beatifully filmed um.... film - the scenery was gorgeous - i watched an interesting behind the scenes documentary , and the amount of work that went into the film was amazing!

But the lord of the rings has been one of my favourite books since i was about 14 and i irritated by brother and sister endlessly throughout the film saying ' they got that wrong' ' they skipped this scene'. ::)

I've heard that in December they're releasing a special edition dvd with added scenes - it's supposed to be really excellent.

I havent the seen the movie (nor plan to see it). I have seen the BIG FAT book lying on the book shelf. But never got to touch it myself.

Nyways, I HAVE seen the making of the movie on a tv program. And I must say that a lot of commputer GRAPHICS were inserted into the movie, especially the natural scenes when the caravan passes through a mountaneous land.

So much for lord of E-rings  ;)
