According to the New York Daily News Cat Stevens, who is now known as Yusuf Islam, visited New York last week to examine the possibilities of making the story of his life a Broadway show. The report says Islam was meeting with potential investors and he had a production team with him. Stevens -- who was born Steven Demetre Georgiou in London in 1947 -- changed his name to Yusaf Islam when he formally became a Muslim in 1977. He retired from performing after the release of his 1978 album "Back to Earth." However, Islam became actively involved in 2000 in promoting the release of re-mastered versions of his albums as Stevens. If the play goes forward, it would feature Stevens' hits. Stevens recorded such hits as "Peace Train," "Wild World," "Moonshadow" and "Morning Has Broken," and a cover of the late Sam Cooke's hit "Another Saturday Night." |
