Assalamu alaykum,

Just wondering, is anyone else on the board planning on attending this program?  The
                application deadline is Nov. 13.

Bismillah 'ir Rahman 'ir Rahim.

I have never been to Calgary and would like to hear what it's like from brothers who live there insha Allah. I understand that it is cold there this time of year, and would like to know about the local Muslim community, sightseeing opportunities, the environment, places of historical interest, and the main local mosques and scholars, insha Allah.

Jazakum Allah khair and Ramadan Mubarak.

Wasalaam alaikum warahmatullah

I'm not a bro, but Calgary's nice.

It's not as cold as TO in the winter...they get these cool warm fronts called "shanooks" or something....It has to do with the mountain shadow.  Sometimes it can be as warm as 15 deg C in the dead of winter.

If you're going sightseeing, you can go to Hannah and visit the wheat fields.  (Oh man..lol ... i'm so mean to Canadians).

Muslim Community is great.

Wasalaam.

i don't live in calgary, but have been there many times ( i got relatives there  :-[).
But the weather can be really cold or pretty mild.  yes, shanooks do occur, and it can make the weather very pleasant, but you never ever know when they come and go.
as for sight seeing.. nothing can beat the canadian rockies.  banff is only 1 hour away and is a definate must see if you're in the area.  its got some great skiing as well.
as for teh community, there are 3 masjids i belive.  the community is large (20, 000 + i belive), but young in the islamic work that they do.
the people organizing this event are very good ppl masha'Allah.  so i'm sure it'll be a very good experience.
