Assalam mualaikum ...

i was just wondering if there's anyone on the board who have had extracted their wisdom
tooth (ALL 4) at one time? how was it like? how long did it take to heal? does it cause
any side effect? ...

Insya'Allah i'm going to have mine extracted and i just can't stop thinking about this
...(me being such a timid one!!) and since this is the 1st time i'm going into a surgery
room and all...Any advice(s)?

Thank you and may Allah bless you all. Wassalam

I had two of them taken out at once.  Before they were taken out, the pain that I was going through is the worst pain that I have *ever* had to endure in my life.  I was literally screaming and crying.  (no, I dont feel embarassed to say it  :P  Any of you who've had severe tooth pain knows how painful it is!).

After they were taken out, I was not completely in my senses for almost the whole day (effects of anasthesia, no, I *am* in my senses most of the time).  After that, it took a week, I think, to heal.  You have to keep these stubs in your mouth for a few days to stop the bleeding, which is gross.  You cannot speak very clearly because of it.  You have to stay in bed for at least 2-3 days.  You can't eat chewy food for a week.  Other than that, there's not much pain at all, and there were no side effects in my case alhamdulillah.

Don't worry, it's not that scary :)

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

Yep!  Been there, done that!  All four at once.  And the whole story is rather funny from hindsight.  But it wasn't too bad, in the end.

They used only a local anesthetic, so I was awake the whole time, and stuff sounded a bit funny, but the whole thing didn't last longer than a half hour or so.  But mine were pretty near the surface -- just growing into their neighbors!  So I was never "out of it", though I kind of wished I was when the anesthesia started wearing off before I could get to the pharmacy to get my prescription.

What were my "side effects"?  Chipmunk cheeks for about 4 days, and a jaw that wouldn't open to even put a spoon in for about a week.  It was another week before I was chewing anything.  (I was SICK of pudding pops and yogurt pops and milkshakes and drinking soup from a straw!  And yes, I lost about 8 pounds.)  The first day or two you'll get used to the feeling of stuff draining down your throat.  And those gauze pads that I had to use to pad the area of the gum and had to change regularly felt pretty disgusting in my mouth -- until I didn't have to use them anymore, but could feel the hole where the tooth used to be.  That was even weirder.  And I had a really bad bruise that ran from one side of my face, under my chin, right around to the other.  But I bruise easily, so that was probably more a function of my body than anything else.  But it never really hurt that badly, and I had no problems sleeping or anything like that.  So, mostly, the side effects were cosmetic in nature.  Everything healed right up pretty fast, and by the time I was able to open my mouth wide enough to really chew, the area had totally healed over.

So, that's my story in a nutshell.

Peace,
Dawn

I've never had it done, but I have heard that if you start taking Arnica a few days before the operation, the pain will be reduced considerably.
Homeopathy works!! Esp. Arnica!

Good luck!

Here's my story.  When I had my wisdom teeth taken out they used an old xray, so I was knocked out cold.  When they went in to remove the teeth they found that they were close to the surface, so the procedure was quite easy al hamdu lillah.  I spent that day in bed and was sick because of the medicine, but the next day I was out and about and went to Boston for the day.  My sister had it even easier.  She was outside playing soccer on the same day.    ;D

Insha'Allah it won't be that bad!  ;)
