PENANG: A 74-year-old retired factory worker from Parit Buntar is
looking for his son Hashim Lee Abdullah, 42,who is believed to be
working as a religious teacher in Washington in the United States.

Lee thun Seng said the family had lost touch with his son because
they misplaced his letters and correspondencd address when they
shifted house about a decade ago.

" The last letter we received from him was about 10 years ago from
Washington," he told a press conference called by state MCA Public
Complaints Bureau chief Ooi ChuanAik yesterday.

Lee said his son, whose Chinese name is Lee Kean Sing, converted to
Islam when he was studying at the Technical Institute here in the
late 1970s.

He added that his son had left home when he was a bout 17 years old
and had studied here in Kuala Lumpur before leaving for Pakistan to
further his studies in 1977.

" When he was overseas, he often sent letters and and photographs of
his family," he said adding that his son married an Italisn
girl,Fatimah and have three children, Husayn,18, fatimah and Ali,13.

" My son was a very bright religious student and he is also quite
fluent in the Arabic language," he said.

Hashim's mother Ng Kwi Heong,72, also expressed concern over her
son's safety in the United States after the Sept 11 incident.

The Lees have seven sons and six daughters.hashim is the fifth child.
" We really miss him a lot and we also hope to see our
grandchildren," Ng added.
Ooi said he would be writing to the Malaysian embassy in the United
States to assist in locating Hashim and his family.
