School Calendar

Give me your thoughts.

My son's elementary school PTA puts out a calendar every month. This year no one offered to do it so I eagerly offered, thinking I would put in our special dates like Ramadan and the Eids. Hee hee!

I thought it was great subliminal dawah and as I was making my first calendar I realized I have to write down Diwali, Christmas, Halloween and Easter as well as other shirkish holidays.  All of a sudden I got an uneasy feeling....

What do you recommend?

alhamdulillah that you feel such!

however sister, these dates exist anyhow, ure not declaring them to be public holidays. all ure doin is highlighting the holidays in the year, regardless of their origin. so i guess you could just go ahead and do it cos the non muslims already know the rest but `eid and ramadan would be new to them. but if you really feel uneasy abt it then perhaps you should just leave it.

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

One question

What religious holidays are currently included on the calendar? Just Christmas and Easter?

Asalamu Alykum,  :)

oh the *uneasy* feeling..
Perhaps you can ask one of your PTA friends to do it and give her the special Muslim dates to add...Wllahu A'lam
but than again you readily volunteered.. this sounds too familiar..  :)

Our school is very culturally diverse. There are many Hindu, Tao, Buddhist, Judism, Greek & Russian Orthodox, etc... holidays.

That was wonderful of you to volunteer to do this.  Your role in this is to simply teach them that there are other holidays besides the non-believers' holidays.  Remember, one of our roles as Muslims/Muslimahs is to teach our deen to others.  So, include all of the holidays as it is only fair to everyone.  I wouldn't feel uncomfortable because many of those holidays would normally be on a calender anyways.  The ones you are adding are simply ones most Americans don't even know are significant to others' beliefs.
