[slm] Does anyone know if employers have a right to make me shave or trim my beard? [wlm] |

[slm], bro dirt, haven't seen you in while, missing those smiles everywhere. :) My thoughts are that your employer has no right to make you do anything, except when it comes to actual work expectations. We know Definitely he cannot fire you because you are practicing your religon, there are lots of supreme court cases supporting that. There may be an expected work dress code, but even then he cannot force you to change your looks if they are for religious reason. i hope that makes some sense... :-* wasalam, red |

Assalamo elikuim I asked the lawyer in the family and she said that as far as she knows the employer cannot ask you to shave your beard (as long it does not effect your work (which I dont think any beard would)) and specially if you have kept it for religious reasons cause it will violate "freedom of religion". [slm] I think it very much depends on where you live and what is in your work contract. I know that here in Germany if you are working in McDonalds for example, the work contract has a "no beard" clause, apparently for hygenic reasons. Which really makes sense when you think that they all have clean shaven faces and loads of dirty sweaty armpit hair and pubic hair. ::) |
