[slm] Has Kathy lost her mind? Why is she posting something about Christmas in October... ( :-)"It is all about Dawah", Kathy says....) I was shoping today, ok window shopping, in our local mall. I enjoy going into the various holiday shops...because you just never know what you will find that may help us decorate for our holidays. For example... I always like to hang lights up during Ramadan. I have the traditional mixed color lights, but they do look a little too much like Christmas, especially when Ramadan is during the same period. Last year I found the coolest lights- they were all miny fanooses, in a Christmas shop! A friend of mine just got married and they were hung at her wedding. Now, that I have explained why I like to go in these shops I will go on with my story. This year I decided I would look for some masjids, ones that typicaly go with the Bethleham story. :-[I came across the cooolest thing and immediately thought Dawah Conversation Starter! With this nativity scene, there was a palm tree, laden with dates, on a desert base, with a stream flowing! All I could think of was - Yes, just like we are taught about Mary and her labor! The story of her thirst, hunger and pain and how Allah swt provided all that she needed.... I had to have it for my coffee table. I just know friends and relatives would ask about it and I would then be able to talk a bit about Jesus' (saw) birth. Of course i immediately asked the sales lady how much it was... I was willing to eat peanut butter for two weeks. She said it was $144. :o :'(Allahu allum.... maybe one of you richer folk can get it and let me know if anyone asks.... It is made by Lenox. The picture does not do it justice: the water is crystal blue and the Oasis is brilliantly colored. http://store1.yimg.com/I/bestwishes_1704_1752449 |

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullah :-)
[snip]...She said it was $144. [snip],,,, The picture does not do it justice: the water is crystal blue and the Oasis is brilliantly colored.
It better be! Anywho.. here's an alternative and U don't have to eat peanut butter for weeks. How about spending $30 on clay, paint, and glitters. Get a weekend, and spend some time with junior dearest.... and voila! U get your own oasis. Display it for everyone to see. Not only can it be a conversational piece for da'wah.. but a work of the family's creativity, inshaAllah. I'm sure it'll be great for Ali's artistic ability and esteem too, inshaAllah :) For defo, an experience worth more than that $30! So wot are you waiting for? Its a win-win situation for all! Oh yes... that's $114 for the advice ;) after $30 discount. :-* Good luck! Wassalam Barr Consultants International |
