Salaam Aleikum everyone  :)

Does a workplace have a legal right to tell me I cannot wear my hijab?  I have read posts that say they do not and yet I have also read posts where the Muslimah quits her job because of it....
Ok, well, here is the whole story... about a couple weeks? ago I spoke with my manager about my wish to wear hijab.  He said he had never been asked about that before so he would speak to his boss about it... so then about maybe 4-5 days passed with no info so I called him again to see what was going on... he asked me to bring the hijab the next day so he could see what it looks like so I did. He told me that he would then speak to his boss about it... so then yet a few more days passed with nothing and I asked him again the day before yesterday... he had not yet heard anything...but he told me to keep bugging him for an answer or he may forget...  so now I am wondering what is taking so long?
I am thinking they could be finding a legal way to tell me I cannot?  Is that possible?

You see, I work for an airline and we do have a uniform.
One other thing is the supervisors had a meeting a few days ago and my supervisor told me they think I should be able to--- after all, its for my religion and also there are people who wear necklaces with crosses  and such....
I just am nervous because it seems to be taking a little too long to get the answer....

Please sister ameerana be patient - make lots of du'a - inshallah things will work out.  Besides there's a saying that no news is good news right???  It may just be that because they've never faced this situation before, it needs a little bit of thought before they can give you an answer

I guess its cool that you asked for permission..but i honestly wouldda just worn it. That's what I did with my job (wearing a jilbab) and they are used to it by now. If my manager was surprised she kept it well under wraps. No one asked me or hassled me...
I mean, if someone wanted to wear a cross etc. they wouldn't have asked for permission would they?
So anywayz, i know he doesn't have any basis for telling you *not* to wear it. And if he does tell you, then you have a case in your hands.
Also, tell him its against your religion not to wear it and he has to make a decision soon....(okay maybe in nicer terms than that...) but they can't just jerk you around about it. It is your right. Freedom of religion.

Sis,

dear brothers and sisters, if theres something i learnt about practising your Deen at work, then its to do it without asking for permission etc.

you do what you have to do and if they stop you then you state your case and reason with them. if you ask and they say no, it makes the situation difficult and if you still persist then that would put you in trouble.

it would be all too convenient for them to say 'no' if you ask, but if you didnt and if you just perform your salaat or wear your hijaab, they would not dare infringe on your rights in most cases and this way you could avert unnecessary problems.
