[slm] If you didn't know already, the latest album from Dawud Warnsby-Ali, "The Prophet's Hands", is the [glow=red,2,300]hottnest. [/glow] I heard some of it briefly when I was in L.A. . But Last night I got to hear the whole album. I was truly impressed. He's probably the most talented song writer of contermporary Islamic Music in North America. Especially if you like a more folk style of music. But like I said, the thing that stands out out most is the writting. I think my favorite songs on the album are, Too afraid to read, Don't talk to me about Muhammad, Crazy Places we've prayed, and the Whisper of peace (reprise). In the Whisper of peace (reprise) he ask a question that I think all islamic song writers wonder, "is this just a waste of rhyme". I'm fastly becomming a Dawud groupie :-/ . Oh well what can you do. [slm] and keep the faith |

[wlm] After that review I went immediately to the Cave of NoReturn (ie 7's room) and grabbed the tape to listen to it :0 It's very nice mashallah. I do like Crazy places I've prayed... It's so cute his wife does the narration :) I have to say Sunshine Dust and the Messenger is really a favorite, but let me listen to this a few times and we'll see ;) I sent an email to my loved one just the other day it's sad communication has evolved this way We use so many words but have so little to relay As angels scribble down every letter that we say All the viral attachments sent, the passionate insults we vent It's easy to be arrogant behind user passwords we invent but on the day the scrolls are layed with every word and deed displayed when we read our account I know for one I'll be afraid That day I'll be so afraid to read every harsh word that I've spoken every time that I have lied I'll be obliged to admit I'll be obliged to submit Will I have strength owning up to each deed I've tried to hide O Allah I'm so afraid to read Wow. Subhanallah. |

[slm] I bought the first few CDs that Dawud Wharnsbury came out with and I liked them alot, I just have one major complaint though. Pretty much all his songs sound the same, that's why I didn't buy The Prophet's Hands, or the CD before it. But he has a nice voice and message, alhumdullilah. |

Salaams, I would agree that alot of his songs sound a like, but that's in melody alone. The words and song topics are vastly different. But this tape stands out. For the most part it is a very different tape. Like I said, the melodies are a bit different, and ryhme patterns are different as well. He even sings a song written by Yousef Islam. But he's taking a different turn in his music if you ask me. Almost cartoony, indulge me if you will. We all know for the most part, cartoons have two aspects to them and two target audiences. The colorful and comedically drawn characters are targeted to kids along with their crazy hijenks. But the dialogue is targeted to adults. Thus, satisfying both viewing groups. And that's how I feel about Dawud's latest album. His message is really adult focused, but for the most part younger kids get into his melodies. I think this is the next turn for Western Islamic Music, music not for children, but target to young adults and elders. Which MYNA-RAPS have been targeting for years. For a more full review of this album check out my review in a couple of weeks on www.ibn.net on "ON THE SCENE with NATIVE DEEN." At it's new time of FRIDAY 2:30PM EST. |

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah,
the Cave of NoReturn (ie 7's room)
umm I keep it like that so ppl like *you* don't go in there and steal my stuff :P I admit, I do think a lot of DWA's songs have the same melody.. but I still love them and have all of his tapes :) "so afraid to read" is awesome. by far my favorite of all his songs, mashaAllah. wasalaamu alaykum :-) |

OK has anyone heard Light upon Light? It was kinda different. I wasn't into all the songs. But one song just blew me away: When the Leaves Begin 2 Fall performed by Irfan Makki except I have no idea what the lyrics mean? When the leaves begin 2 fall I hold my hopes up high As the sparrows look 2 fly I dream alone at night If I take the simple path I will never fall again When the colors start to fade I can see the loving greys My theory is that it's about death and stuff and having hope at the end of our life as we go to Allah? 7's theory is that it's about leaving the dunya things behind all the colors etc and seeing how the world really is, seeing the true beauty? Oh I liked Ya Ummati too.. a different kind of song from Dawud arshad!!! :P |
