Assalaamu alaikum, Many CS oldies (and, newbies + unix junkies) use Tex/Latex for presentations. Maybe that is the format of the file. Unfortunately, I am not a tex user. So your best bet would be to get hold of a latex expert (your fiance, no? :)). BTW, tex to pdf converters are available. So if it is tex then it would be an easy conversion. oh I just remembered. Corel used to have/has a software called presentation. If this is the case then you need to use any Corel software (like corelDraw and maybe even WordPerfect) to open the file. wasalaam. |

Salam Alaikum! What is the extension of the file name?? There were/are many business presentation software. You might look inside the file using a hex editor. Ususally first few bytes are put as comments by the software maker detailing the software name and the version. (Although it is not required, but a good software especially for win platform does put such comments) and there is always a magic number at the beginning which ofcourse is meaningful to the software that opens it only. You might like to look here: http://www.huntfor.com/multimedia/software/presentation.htm The following is excerpt from a Microsoft ppt, StarOffice starImpress, and a windows exe file. assalamu alaikum, good news! it turned out to be Corel's presentation. br Asim's hunch was correct. Subhanna Allah, and I also was able to find a computer in our lab which had that software (could not find the CD, so someone must have installed their own personal copy ). you should all check out the WordPerfect Office package. the slides software is very powerful and nice. it is also a canadian company! makes me sad that I did not know of its existence (i knew word perfect back in the day, but that's about it). for those who despise microsoft for political or otherwise reasons, this might be an alternative. anyways, problem solved alhamdolellah. the great thing is that you can save things in powerpoint format. talk about convience. take care wassalam zom. |
