Islamic honeymoon?
Hmmm... so, wot makes a honeymoon Islamic?

Anywho... here's some award winning Honeymoon places. Pretty pricey.. actually VERY pricey. Prolly burn holes in pockets. But ahhh well, we can all dream ;)

Tanjong jara Resort => http://www.tanjongjararesort.com/
Pangkor Laut Resort => http://www.pangkorlautresort.com/

For more affordable ones:

Kapas Island => http://www.pinganchorage.com.my/kapas_island.htm

Others => http://www.marimari.com/content/malaysia/popular_places/states/terengganu/terengganu.html

If you are to notice.. all of them are in M'sia... not that I work for the Tourist Promotion Board ;).. but i find that Malaysia is a Muslim country, so most foods are halal.. plus, the exchange rate is lower... and U can get scarves and stuff at good prices.

And if you've got the time... you can always drop by to Sunny Singapore :)
i'd suggest go for umrah
I've always wondered if this is a good option... I dunno. Umrah is for ibadah.. where one would want to concentrate on that. But if a couple just got married.. I dunno.. there may be other distractions, being honeymooners. I dunno.. just a thought. I may be wrong.

Allahua'lam :-)

Love this one.  Five couples in my immediate circle recently got married (MashaAllah), and they all did some pretty exciting stuff for their honeymoons.

Couple # 1: Went on a cruise in the Mediterranean.  I know I know.... All of you are kind of like "eeeeek.....NON-Islamic."  But the Mediterranean offers a lot of history (Greece, Italy, Spain)  that is extremely fun to experience.  Anyone who has been to this area, knows this.  (mA)

Couple # 2: Went to Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia.  They shopped the islands off, or so it seems.  It's a brilliant area if you're into food, climate, and just plain urbanity.  (mA)

Couple # 3: Went to visit the Mayan ruins somewhere Mexico (I think ???)  Apparently it was wayyyy too hot when they went (August.)  So I'd suggest some other time of the year.  But it looked like they had great fun. (mA)

Couple # 4 (my sista...): Decided to go visit the cities that both of them are originally from.  (In the subcontinent) I guess it was nice for them on a personal level...don't know if everyone would enjoy it. (mA)

Couple # 5 (my cousin weds one of my bestest friends, honeymoon pending, and this is a nice one): Decided to do what they call the "Islamic Trace."  They will basically trace early Islamic history, starting in Saudi Arabia (which is easy for them, since both their parents live there), and trace thru vital points of early Islamic civilazation, up to Spain.  It is very well planned out, and they are taking 3 weeks off for it.  (iA)

And if you want my opinion: Opt for Tanzania!!!!  Lots of stuff to do there.  Serengetti, Kilamanjaro, Arusha, ZANZIBAR, Ngorongoro.  I mean the list is endless.  And it's really beautiful.  And it's Africa.  (The motherland.) :)

Oh and I agree with "Barr" about the Umrah thing.  My sentiments exactly.

Wasalaam.

I like Costa Rica.  The people are great, you can drink the water and lots to do.  25% of their country is national park and if you like hiking, river rafting, beaches and beautiful scenery that is one of the best places I have been to.  Not too far to go also. or you can try north dakota,  great winter rates in almost all hotels there, and it is fun watching the blizzards blow( if you like that sort of thing, actually never been to north dakota so can't say from experience, but in winter they get on the news for having wind chills at -60)

salaams,

I think it dosen't matter wherever you go, as long as you are there with someone you love. Then you'll hear the birds pray, the sun shine, and the sky is always blue.

Love is something weird, can't touch it but you feel it. Its something so hallal yet something so right and weird...
Anyway enough of this it dosen't go with my hard image, better kick some focus pads.

slm,

My husband and I live in the States and could only take about a week off of work...so we opted for the nearby Caribbean.

It was great Alhamdulillah, we rented a house on a private beach, not a long flight, and surprisingly...quite affordable...

Anyways, broHanif is right...its just a good time for the couple to get away from the madness of the wedding and wedding guests/families/etc, and just spend time together....

I too agree with the Umrah comment--its a great place to go one day Insha'Allah, but the first few days/weeks of marriage, there's a whooole lot of different emotions going on, and that would make it slightly hard to concentrate on the reason you're there...

salam!
Decided to do what they call the "Islamic Trace."
Oh.. that sounds super, mashaAllah! :)

Reminds me of this documentary on TV called "Steps of the Messengers", where this group of people travelled all those historical places. They showed the place where Isa (a.s.) was said to be born, the cave of the Ashabul Kahfi .... the places where the Messengers of Allah used to walk.

I think it'll really enrich taaruf (getting to know), mashaAllah... so many things to talk about.
I think it dosen't matter wherever you go, as long as you are there with someone you love.
One couple I know, spent 1 whole week....................................................................... at HOME  ===> Taaruf....  :-X

Ah well, at the end of the day... as Mr Rochester said about his marriage to Jane Eyre... their honeymoon is a lifetime.

Allahua'lam :-)

He he this thread seems to have brought out the romantic in every one even gruff grizzly BroHanif  ;D

I have to agree with that one fundamental question.  What on earth exactly is an Islamic honeymoon ? One possible answer could be: The kind where u don't come back from and file for a divorce.  LOL...ok ok sorry bad joke.

Anyways, Barr made a comment about a country being a Muslim country.  I have always wondered about that.  What exactly is a Muslim country ? Is it a country that proclaims Islam as its national religion ? Is that reason alone sufficient ? Hmm...or could it be perhaps a country that is heavily populated by Muslim ? Again..hmm....*shrugs*

What I would suggest Bro Dirt and whomever is thinking of a honeymoon anytime soon (*hint..hint...Abu_Hamzah via your last post about marriage et al*) is to spend your time together Islamically, by observing the commands of the Quraan and the sunnahs.  It doesn't matter where u are what is more important is the fact that your honeymoon is the start and the foundation for a lifetime as a couple whose mission in life is to have a successful family, Lillahi Ta'ala.

I married in the last term of my final year at university.  My nikaah was one week before 2 final term papers were due.  So, after the ceremony we basically stayed at home with me dividing my time between being newly married and cramming for finals.  Thus, in the small confines of our bedroom, my husband and I learnt to know each other very well, our thoughts, our hopes, our dreams etc....and we have remained best friends till now.  Please don't misunderstand.  I am not claiming my "honeymoon (was there one ?)" was Islamic or not, if such a concept exist, but I want you to understand that after the nikaah, you just have to tell yourself that you have a lifetime of sweetness waiting for u if u live your life as a good Muslim.  Now, fancy that, a honeymoon that lasts a lifetime.....who cares where we are anyways ? LOL

Wassalam.

Would *I* ever insult *you* ? As Ducky would say in the Land Before Time...no no no...oh nooooooo. LOL.

About this lowering of gaze thingy, a professor of mine once joked like this. " If u happened to see a beautiful woman or a handsome guy, enjoy the first gaze before you lower yours." Heh heh...what say ya ?

BTW I associate gruff and grizzly with warm and comfortable thingies. Kapish ?

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem,

[slm]

I'm going to insert my humble opinion here, insha Allah.  Now, if we really get down to it, there isn't really such a thing as an Islamic Honeymoon because it wasn't mentioned in Qur'an or Sunnah to do such a thing.  It is something done by the non-believers and we have absorbed their traditions into our wedding/post-wedding celebrations.  Are we sinning by imitating them?  I want to ask that question.  However, I think the sister was implying what kind of trip can she take that would involve islamically-friendly situations.  And on the subject of Muslim countries, there is no such thing in existence right now.  If you read Milestones by Sayyid Qutb, you will read all about that.  Even Saudi Arabia ,which is the closest we get to an Islamic Country, defeats that by being a kingdom to begin with.  Anyway, I just thought I would add my comments.  May Allah except our prayers and fasting, Ameen.  Ramadan Mubarak

Umm I think we should be careful when we call something UNIslamic or when we say we are "imitating" someone and so it's a sin.

There are clear cut things that are not allowed in our deen in matters outside of ibadat, the rest is permissible. So there's no need to cast doubt on everything. And we all know just because something isn't mentioned in Quran and Sunnah doesn't mean it's bad or forbidden to do it.

That's why I asked.  I wasn't sure.  Some things outside of Sunnah are considered bid'ah but I wasn't sure about this one.  Thanks
