Assalaamu alaikum, What is the difference between satr and awra? What is included in satr/awra of men/women? I am kinda confused after this came up in a conversatioon.. I thought there is just one thing, awra for men and women in front different categories of ppl..... I believe satr means covering, and awra are the parts that need to be covered (i.e. satr al-awra). However, from the conversation I got the impression that satr is a subset or superset of awra (i.e. implying convering of certain parts in certain situations). Jazakallahu khayran. |

Assalaamu alaikum, I was thinking about this overnight and I think I misunderstood the person. My poor urdu NLP couldn't parse and identify the thorough-bred Urdu and jumbled up the conversation! My initial thought was maybe there is some difference of terms here in Pakistan, and hence my question. Wasalaam. |

[slm] Is satr an urdu word? Cause I can't figure that out? There is different awrahs for different ppl.. ie women among women... even some scholars get specific about like women among non-muslim women etc... |

[slm] The word satr (pl. satur) is derived from astar, meaning hide, cover or shield and it's an arabic. for details visit:[url]http://www.ummah.net/moa-on-line/fiqh/satr_covering.html[/url] [wlm] |
