Ramadaan in Camp X-Ray?

As the first night of Ramadhan approaches, I am obsessed with one thought: our Mujaahideen in Camp X-Ray, and indeed all the Mujaahideen imprisoned. How will they even know that it is Ramadhan?

All praise is due to Allah , we praise Him and we seek his help and ask His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allah from the evil of our selves and from the evil results of our actions. I testify that Allah alone is worthy of worship and that Muhammad is His slave and final Messenger. May Allah's peace and blessings be upon the last and final messenger Muhammad, his family and his followers. Ameen!

To begin:

As the first night of Ramadhan approaches, I am obsessed with one thought: our Mujaahideen in Camp X-Ray, and indeed all the Mujaahideen imprisoned. How will they even know that it is Ramadhan? Do we imagine that they will get a day off from the torture on `Eid ul Fitr? I don’t believe that. The animals (I shan’t call them human beings as they have no concept of humanitarian conduct) holding them enjoy torturing them far too much. Yaa Allah! We can only pray that Allah is strengthening their Emaan, and bestowing relief through good dreams to these exceptional members of the Ummah, until His Victory comes.

Have we forgotten the humiliation they faced, having their beards shaved off? They are being examined by najjis female Kaafir guards. Read the words of one these arrogant disbelievers about our noble brothers:
"The Taliban fighters who wouldn't allow women to study in Afghanistan and punished them if a veil slipped or ankle showed [1] now are getting orders from women guards and care from female doctors at this U.S. detention camp.

"In their culture they get to tell their females what to do," said Pfc. Courtney Sletter, 21, from Waconia, Minn. "Well, they are now in a new culture, and I get to tell them what to do."….. "Generally when you're talking to the detainees their eyes will tend to be in a downward position, possibly because they see you as a woman," said Sonia Kurichh, 29, a podiatrist from Washington, D.C…."Some of them utter prayers, possibly because they think I'm contaminated….”"[2]

Can we not at least promote an awareness that such things happen for the more naive members of this Ummah? Is it too much to ask that we should remember them in our daily Salaat? In our Tahajjud and when our fasts are opened?[3]

Ramadhan, One Year Since 9-11:

My heart aches with sorrow when I think of how this Ramadhan, a lot of Muslims will be seated at Iftaars, perhaps with 10 different dishes. Many a time I recall how last Ramadhan at an iftar, I looked down at all the various dishes in front of me and wondered: what are the Muslims in Afghanistan eating? They probably didn’t have hardly any food for suhoor or iftaar, if at all. I am sure that their children were not thinking about `Eid clothes and which toys to ask their parents for. No. Their days in Ramadhan consisted of huddling their trembling bodies against their parents etc, waiting for the bombing to stop. Can we imagine the fear felt by a child of 5 years old, to hear a bomb land with a deafening loudness? Do we reflect upon what it must be like to venture outside of what is left of your house, and discover most of your family lying dead; their bodies twisted and seeped in blood? What effect do such images have on the mind of an adult, let alone a child?

Yaa Ikhwatee! It has only been one year! Have we already forgotten the images shown on al-Jazeerah of the children killed in Afghanistan? We know the Hadith about how the Ummah should feel pain if one of its members is harmed.[4] If they were our own flesh and blood, would we be so complacent? Should we just accept that such things happen, and secretly feel relieved that we are living in Daar-ul-Harb, relatively freely? Walaahi, we should feel ashamed to be living in the West, in the very countries that are sending troops to kill our fellow Muslims! These “civilized“ countries send agents to “interrogate” our brothers. Did you read how Azzam Publications related that on 06 February 2002 two Mujaahids in Camp X-Ray suffered brain damage?

Do we turn a blind eye and prefer instead to believe the lies of Donald Rumsfeld who hypocritically proclaimed “As a party to the Geneva Conventions, the United States is required to treat every detained combatant humanely, including unlawful combatants. The United States may not pick and choose among them to decide who is entitled to decent treatment," he said.”[5]

When will we fully comprehend the words of Allah, the Most Wise:
“…rank hatred has already appeared from their mouths, what their hearts conceal is far worse."[6]

Small Children Suffer, But The Price Is “Worth It.”[7]

My mind wanders to the situation in Iraq, as the inevitability of yet another war looms on the horizon. We have seen how small children starve under the sanctions whilst adults play power games and see them as merely “collateral damage”.
We have witnessed the effects of DU[8] , which even the US Army Environmental Policy Institute admitted “Short-term effects of high doses can result in death, while long-term effects of low doses have been implicated in cancer."[9]

How many of us have spread the images of these children to as many people as possible?[10] Is it too much effort for us to even do that? Even non-Muslims web-sites have spread the pictures. Are we not more responsible for exposing their condition? Or is it “old news” now, and not worthy of our attention?

Have we forgotten the image of Muhammad al-Durrah as bullets pierced the wall where he screamed and cowered next to his father? He was 12 years old, but it doesn’t matter. He was only a Palestinian boy killed - a mere statistic.

We have seen the photos of the decapitated Muslims in Indonesia, the massacres of Gujarat and Jenin, and we still remain passive!

Ramadhan: Month Of Jihad[11]

“Historically speaking, there has been an important relationship between jihad and Ramadhan. During the Prophet’s lifetime, for example, two of the most important events related to jihad took place during the month of Ramadhan. The first was the Battle of Badr which took place in the second year after the Hijrah. And the second one was the conquest of Makkah some six years later…. Even after the prophet’s lifetime, the month of Ramadhan was a month of important military confrontations for the Muslims. But the relationship between Ramadhan and jihad goes well beyond the recounting of some major historical events. Perhaps, Allah knows best, there is a greater wisdom concerning why these important landmarks of jihad took place during the month of Ramadhan. Perhaps, and again only Allah knows best, they serve as a reminder or signal of the relationship between the month of Ramadhan and jihad.

To appreciate this relationship one must understand the essence of jihad as well as the essence of fasting. Jihad is the actualization of the belief that nothing is more beloved to the individual Muslim than Allah, His messenger and striving for His sake…The Mujahid’s willingness to give up anything of this world, including his life, is a sign that he truly worships and serves none but Allah. He has no other gods besides Allah. He does not worship the material things of this life, his own ego or even his own wealth. His goal is to worship and please Allah. That is his goal and no other purpose can come before it.

For whatever reason, many Muslims have not reached that state. They still need something to make them realize that they are slaves to no one except Allah, not to their jobs, families, wealth, this worldly life or anything else. One of the ways to achieve that level of understanding and taqwa is through the fast. Allah states, “O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you, even as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain taqwa.” [2:183]”

In this blessed month, wherein every Muslim should seek to obtain taqwa, will we do our utmost to cut down on unnecessary spending and send whatever we can to aid the Jihad? To aid the starving children of the Ummah, especially the orphans of the Shuhadaa’? Imagine if every Muslim woman in the West cut-off even £5 from the weekly grocery bill and spent it fee sabeelillah! Imagine if every brother did not let a single year go by without having fought or at least trained fee sabeelillah! Or if you can’t, then imagine them sitting at home thinking “One-day I will go, but today my children are young, my wife won’t hear of it and my mother is old”

Yes, every one of us is probably very familiar with the Hadith about the cause of wahn (weakness) in the Ummah.[12] The standard version cites “love of this life and hatred of death” as the cause. A less-quoted one states that it is due to “love of this life and hatred for fighting”[13] And we wonder why this humiliation is placed upon us, and impatiently cry out to Allah to remove it, when Rasoolullah (SAW) has clearly told us:
“If you deal with `eenah (a type of interest) and hold the cows' tails, and become content with employing yourselves with agriculture, and abandon Jihad in the way of Allah, Allah would permit your humiliation and would not relieve you of it until you return to your religion.”[14]

Ramadhan: Month of Opportunity
In a few short hours the month of Ramadhan will be upon us again insha’Allah. Will we make this one different from the previous ones? Will we really remember the oppressed ones in our dua’s? Will every Imam have the courage to invoke this beautiful du’a: “Allahummansoor al mujaahideena fee Sheeshan, fee Afghanistan, fee Kashmeer…. ”?

This blessed month, let us strive fee sabeelillah and work to publicize the crimes of the crusading West against the Muwaahideen (those of Tawheed). Let not one night go past without us invoking Allah’s adhaab (punishment) upon the heads of Kufr: Bush, Sharron, Blair etc, And upon those “Muslim” rulers who choose to say “laa illaaha illa Amreeka”. Those who allow the Mujaahideen to be tortured within their own countries: Fahd, Musharraf, Abdullah of Jordan, Husni Mubarak, and the list goes on.

My dear brothers and sisters in Islam, I leave you with the story of a brother named Suraqah al-Andalusi,[15] who obtained Shahadah one year ago. Concern for the Ummah used to weigh so heavily upon his heart that he strove to publish the news of the Jihad as an Azzam correspondent. Many years later, he joined the Jihad in Afghanistan. Before his martyrdom he prepared a wasiyyah (will) declaring:

“We are currently observing the massacre and oppression of a Muslim people in the holy land of Palestine and the Ummah does nothing. The Ummah by its inaction seems to be saying to them: "Bury your children and your elders and all your dead, and here are a few dollars (to relieve our guilt) and be patient."”

This understanding of the current state of the Ummah led our brother to fight the crusading forces in the Tora Bora Caves.. He cried out “O Allah! Do not let me leave these mountains before you have granted me my martyrdom here!” A few days later this du’a was answered, and Allah took him as Shaheed. The month? Ramadhan.[16]

Please remember your oppressed Muslim brothers and sisters in your du’as this Ramadhan! Please spread the news of their conditions and expose the crusade on Islam!

How perfect you are O Allâh and I praise You. None has the right to be worshipped except You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn in repentance to You
