Hop, Skip & a Jump!

One of those questions...I have always done it but don't know why...

When we are making salat in the Masjid, once we are finished and want to make some extra prayers, we move to a different spot.

Why?

This is my own reason .

If I'm at front line, corner of the Masjid, I won't move anywhere because no one would pass in front of me.

If I'm in the middle or at the back, where people need to walk pass in front of me to walk out of the masjid, I will move and find a quiet spot.

This is to make it easy for those need to go out of the Masjid and I would have my solat peacefully.

Wallahualam.

We move to a different spot after the fard prayer because that is the sunnah. After the prophet [saw] prayed the fard he would move to another spot to pray the sunnah. This may have been so that the followers would demark what  was fard and what was sunnah.  and Allah knows best.

Ramadan Mubarak everyone!

I remember Imam Zaid Shakir and others saying that one does this because (besides it being the sunnah, of course)
the earth will testify for us or against us--may Allah protect us from that, regarding what we did on it.  The places where we prostrate in the earth will actually testify for us, so it's best to make the places where we pray as numerous as possible.  May Allah bless all of us and accept our good deeds, ameen.
