Canadian Food Inspection Agency Consumer Alert - Traces of Blood in Lollipops OTTAWA, November 8, 2002 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is investigating a consumer complaint related to the presence of reddish-brown spots in Lipo Brand lollipops imported from Argentina. Of the sampled products, only two partially–consumed lollipops showed presence of blood. At this time, the source of the blood found on the two lollipops is unknown. The investigation continues to determine the source of the blood in the samples of the two partially-consumed lollipops. Based on available information, consuming the candy is unlikely to pose a health risk. However, consumers may wish to exercise caution by not consuming this product. Health Canada continues to assess the potential health risk associated with these findings. The lollipops may contain one or more reddish-brown spots visible inside the candy portion itself. The ball-shaped Lipo Brand lollipops are sold in various flavours and colours, with either the name Wamis or Lipo on the label. Flavours may include Magico, Super Acidos (Sour), Fruit, and Dulce De Leche (Caramel). The lollipops are sold in bags of 50 or 140 pieces. As if we don't have enough to worry about, what with us winning the softwood lumber issue, and the Americans getting royally angry at us :D Brings back memories to when the Canadian government put floor plans of the G8 summit thingy on one of their websites. lol....I guess the authorities of our wonderful Canuck land need to be a tad more careful starting right about now.
