....kinda confused.....

[slm] everyone,
I hope everyones ramadhan is going well and good,Ameen. I would like to get you guys' opinion on something that has been bothering me. I am reading this book "The Lawful and Prohibited in Islam" by Sheikh Qaradawi. I am sure a lot of you have read it. On page 54 of that book, he writes about the conditions of Islamic slaughtering. Condition no 4 is about mentioning Allah's name while slaughtering. He quotes from Quran 6:118 and 6:121,
"Then eat of that over which the name of Allah has been mentioned, if you believe in his signs.
And do not eat of that over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for truly that is impiety.
"

Now, on pg 59, he mentions the topic "Animals slauhgtered by the People of the Book" where he explains that since Jews and Christians are essentially belivers in one God, we are permitted to the flesh hunted and slaughtered by them. He quotes from Suran Al Maida,
" Today whatever is good is made lawful to you. And the food of those who were given the scripture is permitted to you and your food is permitted to them.......(5:6 (5) )

Now I am not very informative about alot of the matters of Islam so is there something I am missing around here???I remember reading the ayahs I mentioned at the top, a few years ago and thats the only reason I eat zabiha meat only although its not availible in my area (my theory is that I am not dying without it, so I dont have any reason to eat non-zabiha meat). I know Sheikh Qaradawi is a very renowned scholar so if anyone can explain this what seems to be a contradiction in two things. Please guide me through this and JazakaAllahu khairan for your help, Ameen.

PS: I am not trying to start a discussion on this zabiha/nonzabiha topic. I jsut want some explanation and answers if possible. I know this is a very conflicting topic so hopefully we can refrain from arguments, InshaAllah.

Mehak how can you not start a topic on zabiha/nonzabiha when that is the topic :)

Seriously though this is an issue where there are clearly more than one opinion among scholars and each have their strong arguments backed by quran and hadith. So you should seek out your imam or a knowledgable person there to explain them to you.
