| [slm] I heard some news that they were canceling his TV show and kicking out of Egypt b/c he was getting too popular.. Anyone hear anything about this?? |

| Bismillah, Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah Yeah, his shows for Ramadan did get cancelled. The TV stations were asked by the "authorities" not to air them, after he'd worked on them for up to 20 hours a day before Ramadan. The excuse was that something he said was problematic. He denied it and said that everything he'd ever said was taped anyway. They're showing reruns from last year now. I don't know if he was actually kicked out of Egypt, but I also heard he wasn't allowed to give talks in masajid either, so he left. He went to do a Ph.D. in Seerah at the University of Wales. I believe they gave him a scholarship!! He's doing a thesis comparing the Prophet (S)'s way of social reform compared to the western method. Ironic that he's able to study this in Wales while his own country virtually closes all the doors on him. There's more information in Arabic on www.forislam.com. I believe that the "authorities" are really getting scared of him. His audience was mainly young, mainly well-off people, and when you get young rich people who are also working for Jannah!! that's scary to a government. Also, young people who hold the Sahaba as role models (because his main show was on the Sahaba), then how can the people in power every compete with the likes of Umar and Uthmaan? May Allah reward him in any case. I've never seen anyone in my life with as big an influence.... in the right direction, than him. You wouldn't believe how many sisters here have started wearing hijab thanks to him, and those who haven't yet are really seriously about it. |
