as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah, My imam's khatiras yesterday and today were pretty awesome.. I just wanted to write out some of the things he said.. He's been talking about who the "Aaqil" is.. the wise person, who really uses his or her intelligence and rational mind.. and he mentioned some quotes from knowledgeable people about who the truly wise really are. The quotes are deep mashaAllah... hope y'all benefit from them inshaAllah. ------ * "The wisest of people is the one who: Fears his dhunoob [sins], even if they are minute; Who belittles his good deeds and considers them small, even if they are many and momentous; And who relies totally on his Lord." Relying totally on your Lord means that you put no weight or trust in what you've done or accomplished, but hope in Him alone, and rely only on His mercy. * "The wise is the one who pulls away from dunyaa before it pulls away from him; the one who furnishes his grave before he enters it; and the one who pleases his Mawla [master] before he encounters Him." Leave the dunyaa, because it will use you, and when it's done with you it'll leave you six feet under and move on to someone else. Die before you die - make love for dunyaa die in your heart, remove your attachment from it, before you die and it leaves you. * "A wise believer has five characterestics: 1. His qalb is in a state of istiqama and sidq.." Istiqama - straightness, balance. whether he is in a state of poverty or wealth, hunger or satiation, praise or criticism, his heart is in a state of balance and peace because it is concerned solely with Allah. Sidq - the qalb is true to Allah. every burst that comes from it, every niyyah for an action done for the sake of Allah, is done without any contaminant or desire for anything but His pleasure. "2. He deals with the creation of Allah in insaaf and rifq.." Insaaf - balance, justice, fairness Rifq - kindness, gentleness "3. He shows sabr and discipline towards his nafs.." We need to fight against the drive of our nafs, and when it calls us to indulge in things, we need to overpower it and go against it. And we must train our nafs to perform sabr and be patient in times of affliction and hardship. "4. He shows hayaa' and haybaa for the mala'ika [angels].." hayaa - modesty, meekness, desire not to offend, consciousness haybaa - reverence, awe, caution We say we believe in the mala'ika, but are we conscious of them? Are we aware of their presence at all times? Is our belief in them simply something we say, or truly something rooted in our hearts? "5. And he shows enmity and hatred towards shaytan." Our avowed enemy and Allah's enemy; with whom we should be at constant war. --- wAllahu a'lam. if you see anything that needs to be corrected, please let me know!! wasalaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah :-) |
