[slm] there is a difference of opinion about this... some say it is ok some say it is not (they say it is najas) some say it is ok if the alcohol is only a certain percentage.. Before I would not use it, but after reading up on both sides, I decided to use it again. :) Allahu Alim. |

[slm] i came across this article The alcohol used in perfumes or deodorants is normally a synthetic alcohol, which is not impure (Najis) according to the prevailing view of Imam Abu Hanifa and his followers. Therefore, the external use of this type of alcohol is not Haram. However, its oral intake is still impermissible except in the cases of necessary medication. http://www.islam.tc/ask-imam/view.php?q=49 It is not permissible to use deodorants that contain alcohol from grapes or date extracts. Such perfumes are impure and Salaat with it is invalid. However, if the alcohol is synthetic, it is pure and permissible to use. Salaat without washing off such perfumes will be valid. Sometimes, it becomes difficult to differentiate between genuine and synthetic alcohol. Thus, to be on the safe side, one should rather prefer using deodorants and perfumes that are labelled as ‘alcohol-free’, especially when such perfumes are easily available. (Mufti M Saeed Motara; Azaadville) Abu Huraira (RA) narrates that Rasulullah (sallalahu alayhi wa salaam) said, The perfume of males is that which gives out fragrance and no colour and the fragrance of females is that which gives out colour and no fragrance. (Mishkat- vol 2 pp 381 Thanvi) [i] regarding women here goes: [/i] . Allah's Messenger (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "The perfume for men is the fragrance is apparent but the colour is hidden, and the perfume for women is the colour is apparent but the fragrance is hidden." (Mishkaat Hadith4443) 2. Allah's Messenger (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: Every eye is lustful and when a woman applies perfume and then goes about in an assembly, she is like such and such, i.e. an adulteress. (Mishkat Hadith1065) 3. The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: If a woman applies perfume, she must not attend the night prayer with us. Ibn Nufayl said: Isha' means night prayer. (Abu Dawud Hadith4163) 4. Narrator: Abu Hurayra - A woman met him and he found the fragrance of perfume in her. Her clothes were fluttering in the air. He said: O maid-servant of the Almighty, are you coming from the mosque? She replied: Yes. He said: You used perfume? She replied: Yes. He said: I heard my beloved AbulQasim (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) say: The prayer of a woman who uses perfume is not accepted until she returns and takes a bath like that of sexual defilement. (Abu Dawud4162) 5. The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: If a woman uses perfume and passes the people so that they may get its fragrance, she is so-and-so, meaning severe remarks. (Abu Dawud Hadith4161) 6. The Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: I do not ride on purple, or wear a garment dyed with saffron, or wear shirt hemmed with silk. Pointing to the collar of his shirt al-Hasan (al-Basri) said: The perfume used by men should have fragrance but no colour, and the perfume used by women should have a colour but no odour. Sa'id said: I think he said: They interpreted his tradition about perfume used by women as applying when she comes out. But when she is with her husband, she may use any perfume she wishes. (Abu Dawud Hadith4037) and Allah Ta'ala Knows Best http://www.islam.tc/ask-imam/view.php?q=6116 hope this helps inshalalh Sis Sabr [wlm] |
