So let's hear all about your Eid and what its like celebrating it in your part of the world, weather its in some cow-town place like Albany, or surfer dudeville california, jolly-good england, or wherever, I'm sure it would be interesting to hear.  The ramadan diaries turned out really neat, theres some really beautiful accounts in there.  I'm sure Bro. Hanif can give some tips on what to wear this year for the guys, he's already mentioned some fine fragrances in the Ikhwan section.  There was this really cool website that had clothes from Syria for men, it looked neat, I can't find the link just now, maybe later..

First of All, I would like to say IDD MUBARAK to ALL MUSLIMS ACROSS the world.  May the day be filled with joy and may we make a HAPPY OCCASTION for those less fortunate too, INSHA-ALLAH.

Well, here in Kenya and in Nairobi in particular, Idd Salat will be held at the Sir Ali Muslim Club.  And after the the Idd prayers, so many things have been organized for the kids, including face painting, puppet shows, etc.

But the most important is that there are dances in different cultures settings of the Mulsims here in Kenya because apart from being Muslims we have some many different tranditions and ways of dressing.  All these are brought together, the event becomes spectacular.  I can not describe all the different dress codes here.

We hope that one day, Muslims will be able to share the more on the net, INSHA-ALLAH.

Wasalaam.

Back here in the caribbean we have open air Eid celebrations (called Eid Gahs) in different parts of the country where ppl from all over the island unite. Some gatherings have approx 800-1000 ppl while others are smaller 200-400 muslims.  It is usually held in  a big area like a park ,savannah or stadium  . After the salah their is usually alot of food and sweets and toys for the  kids.  ;D.The day is filled wid activities and fun games .

Most families return home to cook and friends and relatives visit . Sawine and other delicacies are shared   ;) :) :) :)  All in all when the day is over one is very very tired !!  ;D......

EID Mubarak to all  :) :)

PS : Remember to make dua for your brothers and sisters in Palestine, Afghanistan , Turkey and all over the world (esp those who are being oppressed ). Also remember to pray for unity of this ummah as well .

Allah is great
Subhanallah

Tabalallahu minna wa minkum
eid mubarak
we prayed isha on wed  and out of the blue our imam announced that our mosque(cow town) will be celebrating eid twommorw that is thursday, all of us our in a fix for the other two mosques announce its on fri,We turn to chacha for advice as always, i ask him "whats the status of twommorow"
He replies " Kiya hoga eid hogi ya roza hoga" and he says he will be  praying eid on fri,There is now a split among us :( 3 friends say they are praying on thu Imraan and me said its Fri for us .
Fri morning : its been snowing the whole night Imraan wakes me up for fajar Iam groggy havent slept the whole night  between trying call home(india were it is on thursday) and making  a gallon of sheerkhorma (sheer=milk khorma=dates)
its 7.30  Iam frantically trying to call Imraan who is still enjoying his shower the prayers are at a school gym which is a good half n hour  drive from us
finally at 7.45 (albany standard time) imraan arrives we have sheer khorma
its cold outside and a couple of inches of snow, we say our safar ki dua dilligently ;) cauz imraans van is rickitey we could run out of gas any time  ( (we are perpetually short of cash )and we cant see a thing in the rear view mirror his whole rear wind shield is covered with snow and he dosent have a brush  >:(

any way we say takbeer and drive towards the mussalah arguing over whcih exit to take and finally reach at 8.05 pm

people are still coming in  and the prayer starst at 8.20 (ast) followed by an awesome khudba mashaalh the imam is great :)
we greet each other, its a better feeling this time last year the only people i knew and greeted weere my cousin and cacha(from the mosque) but alhamdullilah the list has grown this year

Time to work and now we take the wrong exit again and finally land up 15 mins late for classes my proffesor looks up quizically and i tell him' lost in the snow' the class laughs
Imraan picks me up at 12.45 and we manage to make it for the jummah salaat being thankful  for the first time  ;) that our local imaamtakes more than the alloted time for khudba

Time for lunch  which we had initially planned to  skip then imraan
'says hey eid is not complete without biryaani ;)' so we buy some meat and start cooking finally we sit down to eat at 4 alhamdullilah 3 other brothers have joined us and the biryaani wasnt too bad as we had initially thought
back to work come back at 7.30 pm
Imraan and zameer come over for the left overs by this time I have a stomach upset  cauz it had been a long time since i had drunk half a gallon of sheer khorma
Call up relatives in the US msot of them are out , its 11pm time for

Eid..  Didn't pray at our regular mosque.  Am kind of upset about that, because the imam at our mosque gives really good khutbas, and lifts my spirits without trying.  Couldn't pray there because of the distance to the places where our breakfast, brunch, 2 lunches and 3 dinners were planned.  (that's not even a joke).  Usually, our extended family comes to our house for brunch, but since we're moving, our house is in no condition for entertaining.

Spent the day on the other side of town with family friends/relatives.  My younger brother called it "house hopping."  The last house we visited, they had planned a dholki.  On EID!!!!!

Just the thing to end a depressing Eid day, and transform it into a depressing Eid night.  Just now, trying to get over the depression.  (lol)

Wasalaam.

slm,

I'm a bit late..just saw the thread.  Anyways, I was a bit upset last week because I would not be able to spend eid with my family and friends in Alabama.  Eid there was all about visiting everyone, good times, friendly people, and great food.  Here...we talked about maybe going back to work after salat  :( . But Alhamdulillah, we (the hubby and I) ended up having a great eid.  We started off by going to Eid Salat which was held in the DC convention Center (same place as ISNA).  The khutbah was interesting; it was delivered by a Muslim judge from the inner-city.  Definitely different from the khutbahs in my hometown..but I liked it a lot!  Then we checked out the bazaar and carnival they had set up for the kids, and afterwards we went to an irani kabob house for lunch with some friends.  Afterwards, we invited the bunch to our place and hung out for awhile.  After everyone left, my husband and I drove out to visit his parents and have dinner and spend time with them.  We left there around 11pm and then headed to another friend's home for desserts and games :)  That was fun...we didn't get home until after 3am! The next evening, (2nd day of Eid) I had planned on having a dinner at our place, so I spent the large part of the day cooking, cleaning, and sending the hubby out to run various and random errands.  The guests arrived in the evening, dinner went well (largely in part to some great halal restaurants near our home  ;) ) And Alhamdulillah everyone seemed to have a nice time.  In fact--we even had two albany kids there! :)

Then on Sunday...the third day of Eid, we got a great Eid present.  Our cousin a had a beautiful baby girl! Alhamdulillah..it was a great way to end a nice eid.  Alhamdulillah.

Take Care,
Salam!
