Dealing with a terminal illness?

How do you maintain your faith in Allah subhana wa ta'ala ? And how do you
prevent seeds of bitterness from taking root in your heart? Whats the  best way to comfort
loved ones most affected by the situation (closest to the ill relation) ?

Any words of wisdom, strength and patience would be much appreciated.

Firstly, may Allah Bless everyone involved in dealing with the terminal illness, be it the patient or the families and friends, Amin.

U know, I have been in the situation where I grappled with keeping faith in Allah SWT.  I realised eventually that to be close to someone and to always have that someone in your heart u have to always remember that person and cherish the memory of that person's qualities and beauty.  Similarly, to strengthen the faith in Allah, do lots and lots of dhikr al-Allah and learn of His Beautiful Sifah.  Read His Quraan and read what He is Telling Us.

Insya'Allah, our du'a for u.

Wassalam

Asalam!
Ummwafi: Is dhikr-al-Allah what you mean by namaz (salat)?

I'm kinda having a problem too with maintaining my faith t0o..but I suppose the best way is really to keep on remembering Him through namaz and reading the Quran and repeating His Glorious Names. That's what I'm doing and hopefully all these bad thoughts will disappear.

My aunt told me to say, "Ahoozo billah hee menish shaye thau nir rageem."
Inshallah it'll work..but like medicine it'll take some time.

Take care

I think that for a truly faithful Muslim there comes a time in their life where that faith is put to the test. It's really easy to wonder that if they have faith it will make the trial easier but it's actually the opposite.
I've seen people who have been through some really tough times/ illnesses and their outcome depended on the kind of person they are within. But it helps ALOT to have friends and family making duaa.--I personally went through a situation where I backlashed against Allah (swt), (astaghfir-Allah...I still cringe at the memory of what I had said), but if it hadn't been for my family I would have been in a different place right now. Anyways, my point is how much duaa helps. Also, it helps to remind anyone going through a difficult situation that it's really a blessing. It washes away sins and humbles a person to point where they're forced to see themselves as mere weak humans and that only Allah (Swt) in His Greatness has the power to take away the pain. That's the time where a Muslim understands and knows what fear of Allah (swt) is and says Alhamdullilah sincerely from their heart.
I want to add that a sheikh once said from a hadith that if you say "La hawla wa la kuwata illah billah" (100x/day I think), whatever problem there is, it will be solved. I heard it when I was going through what I was going through so I thought what the heck. Subhan-Allah...having had that problem for a number of years, it was solved in about 2 months and that sheikh still gets duaa from me even though he has no idea how much he helped me.

Dhikr al-Allah here I meant as repeating His Names and Sifah, like the Sufis used to do.  In fact , the Sufis have a whole treatise and discipline on how to dhikr with adab.

Just remember that when u feel your faith shaken and tested, it is syaitaan whispering to u hoping that more will join him in Hell.  I know that it is tough to reaffirm faith by turning to the one thing that u are doubting so try to convince urself with truths.  Exactly what is it abt Islam u are doubting ? Have u truly sought for the truth and answer to that doubt ? Have u found the answer for that question in Islam ? If yes, then why doubt Islam ? If no, are u sure the anwer is not there or have u sought wrongly ?  Finally, take up this challenge, go and see if u can find one single untruth in the Quraan.  U can never find it I assure you.

I have done my searching in my own time, a long and painful one.  This is my conclusion after a thorough study and Insya'Allah it will be yours too.  The conclusion is : Laa Ilaha Ilallah Muhammadur Rasulullah.

Wassalam.
