MIST stands for the Muslim Inter Scholastic Tournament. It is a fun, educational, interactive program geared towards bringing high school students together from around the nation to develop leadership, communication, and other skills guided by Islamic principles in order to develop a strong Muslim identity. Students will also learn how to develop and maintain strong Muslim organizations.

MIST stands for the Muslim Inter Scholastic Tournament. It is sponsored by the Muslim Student Association Of the US and Canada (MSA) as well as by the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). MIST is a tournament similar to speech and debate but with an Islamic concentration. Muslims and Non Muslims can register.

MIST has 4 categories: Skills, Knowledge, Arts, and Community Service. The Skills category concentrates on extemporaneous events such as Essay Writing and Speech making. It also includes a Research Project event and a Tajweed event. The Knowledge category is divided into two parts. Part one is an examination of a student’s Islamic knowledge. MIST will recommend 4 books that each student who partakes in the Knowledge category should read. Each student will then take an exam that will come strictly from the 4 books. The second part of this category is the Islamic Scholastic Bowl. This is a competition similar to It’s Academic. Students test their Islamic knowledge in a team environment. Additionally, the Arts category is for students with artistic talents. The events in this category include 2D Islamic Art, 3D Islamic Art, Photography, Poetry, and Best MSA Event Scrapbook. All art will be displayed and judged at the tournament. Finally, the Community Service category is for those students interested in promoting MIST’s theme through a community service projects. All projects must be approved by the board and must be completed before the start of the tournament. Projects will be judged on quality as well as effectiveness within the community.

Winners of each category will receive a trophy to be displayed in their school trophy case. Winners will also receive monetary awards for their achievement. MIST will also host a few MSA workshops that provide high school students with the necessary tools to start an MSA club in their high school or to continue working with their already created clubs.
