Is it okay to wear braces ?

[slm]  :-) &  ;-)

I'm just wondering if its okay (permissible) to wear braces.

Cos some people wear braces to straightened/beautified their teeth. (So, doesn't this comes under "changing of Allah's will to us" i.e  to have a bad set of teeth?

As like the issue of ladies plucking the eyebrow, its haram bcos it changes the way we look. So, does wearing braces have the same effect? (making one looks better with a beautiful set of teeth  ;D ?

And what if one has to wear braces because it was required to (due to hygiene/health purpose?) ...  ???

Thank you and Wassalam

[slm],

I don't think so...because there are some people who have really bad teeth and its really important for your health. How healthy you keep your teeth relates to preventing strokes and heart problems. When i got my braces my doc said if i didn't fix them, my teeth would continually hurt and there would be problems later with my wisdom teeth. A few people i talked to said that before their parents had strokes they had toothaches. Having braces may be to beautify, but for many people its fix them to prevent sickness.  I think than it is permissible to wear braces for this purpose.
How healthy you keep your teeth relates to preventing strokes and heart problems.
... Masya'Allah - i never knew that it would be that serious!  :o ... so i guess it goes way back to our niah (intention) in the very first place.

Allah knows best.

Jazakallahu khairan Sis Red for the info.

My son is who is fifteen and ahalf has braces.  This a dental (medical) requirement hence it is a necessity.  He needs the braces to correct his teeth.

My younger son is twelve has metal holders in his lover jaw (this is slightly different from braces).

We sometimes to go great lengths for our health.  I believe Allah Subhanu Wataallah understands and permits this.  This my opinion entirely.

What would be wrong is wearing braces just for the whim of doing so.

Wasalaam.
